Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this hold the reflector? I don't see any clamps in the photo.

A: The holder has two 'wings' that you can see in the photo - one at the top and the other at the bottom. Using your fingers, simply grab these two wings and pull them to the center post. This opens up the 'clamp' into which you insert the rim of the reflector -- then let go of the wings with your finger and boom - a nice tight grip on the reflector. I have the holder mounted on a tripod that I had been using for a strobe. It works very well - sturdy.

Q: 2. Has anyone found a smart way to fly with this?? I've checked it with just the bag it comes in but it's getting a little beat up so I'd love a padded sleeve at least. Asking for a friend.

A: If you're looking to add an extra layer of protection within the case, I would personally recommend a heavy duty (flattened) cardboard box or corrugated shipping pads, which can be found at any office supply store. It won't add significant weight and can help shield the backdrop in the case.

Q: 3. Has anyone compared this to the tri-panelled Photovision One Shot for setting WB? (Bonus if compared on Nikon gear). Thank you!

A: No, but this gray card works great and accurate color balance

Q: 4. For the pure white (non-reversible) is it translucent enough to place a flash behind it to get a really white background?

A: Yes, in order to achieve a solid white color, you would need to place two lights in front of the background and make them at least 2 stops brighter than the light on the subject.

Q: 5. Is the carrying case full size, 12"?

A: No. The carrying case fits the QuikBalance when folded/collapsed into its smallest size (roughly 1/3 in diameter).

Q: 6. Will this fit a 20.5" beauty dish from Profoto?

A: Yes

Q: 7. How small does it fold up? Small enough to fit in a standard suitcase?

A: Not small enough to fit into a standard suitcase. It is about 30 inches in diameter. Weighs about 5-7 lbs. Isn't packaged to be travel friendly

Q: 8. Can the background be used in portrait and landscape modes?

A: It can be used in both orientations.

Q: 9. How do you keep this upright? Do you hang it or put it on a stand?

A: I use a stand on each side with gator clamps.

Q: 10. Is the grey 18 IRE and is the white 90 IRE? Thank you.

A: From researching, the grey is 50 IRE and white is 100 IRE.

I have used and traveled with grey/white cards that were printed on cardboard in the past. They always seem to get dirty or destroyed over time. This Collapsible QuikBalance system fits in the outer pocket of my camera case and is easy and compact to use. It's always a great way to insure your images start with a neutral color balance giving better options in post.

18% grey backgound with a target so the autofocus works. Allows the white balance to correct for the color of light I am shooting in.

This is the perfect size. I can fill the frame of any lens with this to nail exposure. It is also weather durable because the water doesn't soak the fabric to cause a color shift. Instead, it just floats on the top and can be wiped away easily. The rim is much more substantial than I thought. It's a very tough and thick spring frame. The white side is really close to neutral and gives the photos a very accurate look. Overall, I don't know why I waited so long to get this. I love how it packs up into the included zipper pouch.
