Q: 1. I've seen with some canon battery grips you have to use a cord to connect the grip to the camera? Is that true with this one, or do you just plug in the battery grip and it works automatically?

A: Canon has a great system in this respect. You will remove the battery and the battery door from your 70D. The battery door then slips into a well designed little compartment on the new grip. Your then insert the grip into the 70 D and tighten the attached mounting screw. (No parts to store or loose) This grip with two batteries will increase time between charging beyond two times normal battery life! I can't imagine my camera without it.

A: I have mixed battery types, specifically the Canon LP-E6N and a Watson LP-E6 battery with no ill effect. Both battery positions have sensing pins and are not just directly connected in parallel like the off brand grips.

A: EOS 80D weights 2.1 lb with one battery and EFS18-55mm lens & sense cap attached. The battery grip adds 0.8 lb (2.9 lb total). One additional battery (grip can hold 2) adds another 0.2 lb (3.1 lb total). Battery grip adds 1.72 to camera height. The added height gives better palm support for horizontal shots. Vertical grip feels equally comfortable and secure keeping all the controls in familiar locations. Not an investment you will regret.
