Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it fit the b10

A: Yes, this can be used with the Profoto B10.

Q: 2. Can the black cover come off?

A: No, the black backing is fully integrated into the umbrella and does not come off. Profoto does manufacture a translucent white version of this umbrella - but that's obviously expensive. If you're looking for a lightbox option to pair with the umbrella, I'd suggest the umbrella diffuser - it is a lot less expensive that another umbrella and definitely extends the range of lighting options the umbrella provides. - I hope this helps.

Q: 3. Is there a fabric to cover the front of the umbrella?

A: Yes. You can buy separately a diffuser to cover the front. I did and it is very good

Q: 4. Will this umbrella fit on my Profoto B1x?

A: Yes this will work with a B1X.

Q: 5. How long is the 41" folded? I can only fit 27" in my bag.

A: This Profoto umbrella is 33" when folded.

Q: 6. Does the Profoto shallow 33 silver umbrella have a beaded or pebbled interior surface? I like that type best as it seems to disperse the light more evenly.

A: The Profoto Shallow Silver Umbrella (Small, 33 ), B&H # PRUSSS, has a slight beaded texture.

Q: 7. What is the length of the umbrella when folded?

A: 31 inches

Q: 8. Will this fit the Profoto B2? Looking for something lightweight that will also cover a lot of ground.

A: Yes this umbrella can fit a Profoto B2 flash head.

Q: 9. What is the front to back depth of this when it is open?

A: It is 15 deep.

Q: 10. Hi, Profoto certainly makes outstanding lighting gear but do you think their umbrellas are worth the extra cost? Is there a visual difference? How much of a difference is there between the deep and shallow Profoto umbrellas? Thanks. Paul

A: I thought that there would be no difference before I bought one, but now after using the Deep Umbrella a couple of times, I feel that it is worth the price. The light output is nice and even, with some drop off as opposed to a normal umbrella that spreads light everywhere. Plus, I have found that the deep umbrella tends to be easier to control the direction of the light since it reflects from the inside of the umbrella instead of through it, like a normal umbrella. Finally, the construction is top-notch and the fiberglass rods inside seem much more durable that the other umbrellas I already have. The outer layer is much thicker and the steel rod is rigid. Because of the heavier duty construction the unit weights a little more than a normal umbrella, but it's not that noticeable. Paired with my B1, this is a great modifier for me on the go, rather than using a Softbox that requires me assemble it. This deep umbrella pops open and attaches in seconds.

All umbrellas are not created equal and I regard this Profoto umbrella as a really excellent choice. While certainly not the cheapest umbrella, it justifies its cost by being well made and by having a beautiful white reflective interior surface. And used in combination with the Profoto Diffuser, it provides soft box - like functionality that's hard to beat.

I use it with a diffuser and the B10 like a soft box, but easier to set up

While being a bit more expensive than others, this umbrella is well constructed with a solid center rod and it comes with a nice case to keep it organized and protected when packing/transporting it.

I use this umbrella as the main diffuser in a one light strobist set-up. It works great, and the build quality is outstanding. The main advantage with spending a bit more on a Profoto umbrella is that it will likely still be working great ten years from now.

I have avoided umbrellas since the early 2000s. But, I was in a creative rut and wanted to try something new. I purchased two umbrellas and have been using them constantly with other light modifiers for the past week. Super fun to experiment with and to use practically for headshots. I am now waiting for Profoto's shoot through umbrella to try something else! The construction is outstanding. The light quality is incredible, making images look effortless. It's important to me that my light quality looks as though I have a large bank of windows in my studio. You can't beat Profoto!

After using a set of Silver umbrellas, I made the switch to White umbrellas and immediately noticed the difference in how much softer the light shined on my subjects which made me ask myself what took me so long to transition to the white umbrellas. I'm so glad I did as my keeper rate has increased and I recommend to anyone thinking of making the change to not hesitate in making the change.

I use this with a Profoto B1 strobe for location lighting. It is very light as you would expect from an umbrella. It opens and closes in seconds making it much more convenient to carry outdoors. The light is beautiful and soft if you keep it relatively close to the subject.
