A: Coarse threads screw on and off faster than the normal ones. However, you need to make sure that your filter holder is threaded correctly. I live in Clearwater Fl., which is fairly sandy. If I used fine threaded filters, and got a grain of sand in the threads there is a good chance the threads would be stripped because of the thinness of the metal in the threading. While the coarse thread filters can also be stripped, I have yet to ruin one. For me, its just a personal choice, but I make sure all of my filters are compatible. I also have put filter adapter rings on all of my lenses to make them all take 77mm filters and lens caps. I have 8 lenses (including an 80-400mm Nikon Zoom and my largest diameter is 77mm so I took all of my lenses to that size.
