Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. how many steps of Dynamic Range are in this thing? I couldn't find this information anywhere in the tech specs

A: With the HC-X1 not being released until December of this year we do not have all the specs available yet, this includes the dynamic range I'm afraid. Please keep an eye on this product page, as more information is made available it will be listed here.

Q: 2. What color sampling for 4K? HD? Sony's PXW-Z150 is 4K: 4:2:0 8-bitHD: 4:2:2 10-bitMPEG2HDHD: 4:2:2 8-bitHD: 4:2:0 8-bit

A: Panasonic has not released the color sampling bit rate at this time.

Q: 3. Can an external monitor be connected to the HDMI output?

A: Yes, you can connect a monitor to the camera. That is one of the primary purposes of the HDMI output.

Q: 4. Is the menu for this camera touchscreen only? Is there another method to scroll through the menu, joystick or scroll wheel?

A: You can also select menu items by operating the jog dial.

Q: 5. Is there the option to record date/time stamp?

A: Yes, there is a date and time stamp option under the recording settings within the camera.

Q: 6. What are the major differences between the Panasonic HC-X1 and the Panasonic AG-UX180?

A: With both the HC-X1 and AG-UX180 not being released until later this year we do not have all the specs available on both. Please keep an eye on our website, as more information becomes available it will be listed on the product pages. At this time we do know that the UX180 will have both HDMI and SDI outputs, while the HC-X1 will only have HDMI.

Q: 7. In the overview, it says that a super slow-motion effect can be achieved through high-speed recording in HD resolutions at 120 fps but I couldn't find 120 fps in the specs. Does HC-X1 supports 120 fps?

A: Yes, this model supports 120 frames per second.

Q: 8. Does this camera have Face Detection AF?

A: This camcorder does not offer any face detection/tracking features.

Q: 9. Does the HC-X1 allow XLR audio to be mixed with the onboard mic audio?

A: Yes, The Panasonic HC-X1 has two channels of audio to work with. And you can use one channel from the internal mic and one channel from an XLR microphone.

Q: 10. Does anyone know a mountable camera monitor that is compatible with the hcx1? I've tried several from freeworld, to neewer, that say 4K compatible, however, The display only shows in the monitor when I lower the quality to UHD 1080p or lower quality.

A: This camcorder has the ability to output HDMI at up to 4k 60fps. While there are many monitors that accept 4k, it tends to be at only up to 30fps, not 60fps. Even a monitor like the Atomos Shinobi only accepts 4k30fps through HDMI, BH #ATSHINSDI. Having to lower the output quality would be the norm with most monitors. Keep in mind that 5 - 7" on camera monitors may accept a 4K signal, but the screen itself will only be HD quality. There really is no loss to setting the output to 1080p, which you can do while keeping the recording quality internally at 4K.
