The quick release also tends to have a sway. Pointing this out especially since you mention you have an inexpensive tripod. Granted it comes with a hook and bag for counterbalancing, but not sure how effective that will be because there is also a noticeable sway. Also when tightening the extender nut, it does damage the metal and creates a noticeable dent. For how heavy this is, the metal is quite soft.I will not buy this model again.

The problem went away when I tightened the ball joint lever 1/4 turn past the point after I felt the resistance on the lever. Less than 1/4 turn, it will slip on mine.
