[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a pretty heavy duty light and it works great. The lighting is perfect and everything comes out very clear. Its not super huge as well so its travel friendly and it can be used outdoors or indoors. Would definitely recommend this product.

Have got these fixtures for a while. The output was astonishing with the newest optical tech from SmallRig (can you imagine this fixture draws less than 500w but brighter than the Aputure 600x which draws 720w? ). Power brick was pretty small and come with lock-on/ off button on the both connectors. Love the detachable light stand adaptor / non-stop damping system and wired control panel feature which saves us a lot of time as well as extremely reliable. These features were helpful when mounting the giant parabolic softbox or control these fixtures when hanging in high. Color temperature was correct. Barely no shift in color tone, especially 3200K and 5600K. I don't need V-mount battery adaptable giant control box, so I've saved myself $900. It did come with a decent carry bag, hope I can get some wheel on the bottom of the bag for better carriage.

Bare bulb, this light is brighter than the Aputure 600x and it also draws less power. It's significantly smaller and more portable than anything else on the market with equal output.

The design is brilliant. It has a fluid head easing system to prevent heavy bowens mount adapters from falling suddenly - and the built in umbrella mount is a fantastic edition that many other professional cob lights are missing.

If you prefer the Amaran 200d/200x series over the Aputure 300d II for portability, this light is for you. You lose a few perks like the a control station with v-mount slots, but the reduction in size is incredible.

Although bi-color, this light is bright enough to use as a fill light on a bright sunny day. It has so many uses. I use this light on every film shoot.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a video professional I have used my fair share of lighting gear over the last decade and a half and I always welcome brands bringing new quality offerings to the space. Aputure has jumped out front as a solid price to performance option for us, but SmallRig has come out swinging with this new line of lights.

First off this thing is bright. 172,000 Lux at 3.3' with the reflector is absurd. Need to fight the sun? No problem. Want to shoot some high speed macro shots? Blast away! Moral of the story is it should be plenty for almost any situation.

Build quality is solid using a combination of plastic and metal. Carrying handle on the back and very basic controls with a display on the back. The light stand adapter is pretty unique for the space having a tilt dampening system that keeps it from falling forward or backward if accidentally left unlocked. I don't know that I fully trust the implementation of the hanger on the power brick, but that can by adjust as needed. The Bowens mount makes it compatible with a ton of modifiers that you probably own. The cooling fan does make some noise but it's really noting to be concerned about.

The only shortcoming that it does have is the app for Bluetooth control does the bare minimum. It's really not a deal breaker for me and is something that they can improve upon in the future.

In the end if you're looking for an affordable alternative that can throw out a massive amount of light, you should really be looking in to the new SmallRig offerings. So far I am really impressed and look forward to using it on more shoots in the near future.

Smallrig has really created something amazing here. Who knew a company known for their camera rigs would create some of the best COB tech on the market.

The RC 450d (and b) lights rival their Aputure 600 competition in brightness while drawing 150-220w less power draw.

Having used both on set, I prefer the Smallrig RC450d for its quickness of setup, power efficiently and ease of use. It's also smaller, easier to transport and more affordable.

If you need weather proofing, you'll need to invest the extra money on an Aputure 600d pro, but aside from that, I recommend this unit by a long shot.

This is a nice piece of gear! Very powerful. I did a test if you're wondering how strong it is. See results below. Disclaimer: I'm not Gerald Undone.
First the good. Very bright! Blindingly bright. Like the sun. Feels stout. Love the fluid head it comes with. Feels very secure. They copied (I think, see results) the Godox reflector and it rocks. Did I mention it's really bright?
The less than perfect. Once the thing is up in the air you need to use the remote. Sold separately. This adds cables and, all in all, it's a bit of a mess of cables. It's heavy with the fluid head attached. Not a problem for me but be aware.
For this test pointed the lights at a white screen from 4 feet away. All lights were at 100%. Camera was FX6 with a Ninja V monitor. Settings were 24fps, f2.8, 180 shutter, ISO 800 Slog3, 4K all I.
I adjusted the ND to get to 100 IRE. The SmallRig RC450D came in at 2 full stops or more brighter than the VL150 and Genaray.

I was able to get this on a flash deal sale for $600 and it's totally worth it. Love working with the SmallRig lights - super powerful and good build quality. The case that it comes in is super nice - very small size when you think of all the stuff it fits - including the controller. 450 watts is more than enough to get what you need. Haven't tried it outside yet but inside with a light dome II and it's a beast.
