I'm not sure if most people buy these or not - but I was always taught that not only are the images with UV filter generally richer than those without (at least they were in 35mm SLR days...) but it is a very inexpensive way to protect the lens. I would always have one. 5

There's really not much to it. It does protect your lens from scratches. Cleans up easily due to a non coated surface. Never really had problems with glare. 5
