Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you sell a speed rail that this fits nicely on?

A: The Tilta 2" Speed Rail Clamp for Hydra Predator Arm (B&H# TIHDAT05RMA) is part of the Tilta Hydra Predator Shock Absorbing Arm (V-Mount) (B&H# TIHDAT05V) or Tilta Hydra Predator Shock Absorbing Arm (Gold Mount) (B&H# TIHDAT05AB) and it may indeed be used with standard two-inch (50mm) speed rail, just like those arm kits. As of mid May 2022, B&H does not sell speed rail of that diameter, but if and when we do sell Tilta's version of that rail (Tilta HDA-SRK-SR) you will be able to find it at this link: https://bhpho.to/3yIzfrM

Q: 2. Can this rail be used as a nodal rail for panoramas?

A: No this is for macro use

Q: 3. What is the depth of this rail?

A: The depth of this rail is approximately 1/2"

Q: 4. Sunwayfoto also makes this rail with a locking lever instead of a knob. I see B&H does not carry that version. I actually prefer the convenience of the lever, but is the knob actually more secure?

A: Both are very secure and a matter of personal preference. With the knob, you can apply more tightening force than the lever but of course the lever is more convenient.

Q: 5. Hi! If this is mounted vertically on a copy stand (for use as a "microscope" setup), would the action be smooth and precise, even at 4x magnification? It would be a working distance of about 10mm from microscope objective to subject. This would be a ≈5lb. camera/lens setup attached to this rail. If this isn't a suitable rail, could someone recommend one that would work well? Thank you!

A: Because it is a heavier camera and lens set up, I would probably not use this one unfortunately. The one that I would trust the most would be the following: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554343-REG/Manfrotto_454_454_Micrometric_Positioning_Sliding.html Due to the fact that you can screw down a tension knob that very securely locks it into place. This would be the strongest one that I would recommend for a setup such as yours.

Q: 6. How about the spec of thread of those screw holes on the end of rail? I would like to mount RRS PCLR clamp on end as a vertical nodal slide of my DIY multi-row pano nodal slide gear.

A: Screw holes are 1/4-20".

Q: 7. How does the rail mount to tripod?

A: The bottom of the rail has standard threads for mounting (like any camera) but the entire rail itself is compatible with any arca-type mount and this allows you to move the entire rail back and forth.

Q: 8. I have macro lenses that have a collar and the plate is oriented perpendicular to the body plate. Is there a way to orient the sled to work with that lens plate?

A: If you attach an arca clamp with built in plate, it will work. Click the link to view; https://bhpho.to/3gpEy3a

Q: 9. It is this correct? 2" speedrail? The standard is 1.25 and 1.5. Why would Tilta go with a non-standard rail size?

A: The Tilta 2" Speed Rail Clamp for Hydra Predator Arm will work with speed rails with an outer diameter up to 2".

Q: 10. Any similar product to fit Alien arm? by looking looks like it should fit Alien arm?

A: There is only the suction cup mount and this speed rail mount.
