It holds a camera, it collapses to a decent size. It converts, through some magic I'm not interested in learning, into a monopod.


It doesn't cost more than your car (well, it might -- I don't know what you're driving).

This should have been part of the original tripod and center column - a little pricey but very well made and worth the money over some DIY option unless you have a full workshop to make one.

Deceptively strong and sturdy. Coupled with K&F Gimbal Head, it easily excels with my monster 150-450 Pentax and K-1ii

This makes the Horizontal Column feature of the Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod (+ other models) really work. This 90 553 Right Angle Bracket completes the Horiz Column functionality. Several Manfrotto tripods, and other brands, have columns that can be switched from the normal Vertical Orientation, to a Horizontal Orientation. Then the column, technically, becomes a Beam. When horizontal, the column/beam can extend side-ways from the tripod. It's wonderful! Look at the Manfrotto site to see examples. But! Then the Head is side-ways! The 90 553 Right Angle Bracket fixes that problem! Now your tripod Head is upright and normal. This 90 553 Right Angle Bracket works just fine with the standard Vert/Horiz Columns of the 055XPROB tripods. You don't need the Leveling Column to make it work. The Leveling Columns are great though! I want the 555B Leveling Column. This 90 553 Right Angle Bracket allows you to remove your Tripod Head, add the 553 90 Bracket, then re-attach your head. Now the tripod can be configured in any of the many orientations with the Head in a completely normal orientation. Now all the axes of the head work normally. The 90 553 Right Angle Bracket is very well built, very professional. Note: The threads are 3/8-16, not 1/4-20. The 3/8-16 thread is standard for most all of the Manfrotto (& many brands) for below the head attachments. The side that attaches to the tripod is female threaded (3/8-16), with a knob. The side that attaches to the head is male threaded (3/8-16), and has a screw head with a coin slot, plus, there are 3 120 Security Set Screws to drive into the base of the Head to prevent rotation of the Head. There are similar 120 Security Set Screws at the top of the Manfrotto columns, where the Heads usually are attached. There is also a Bubble Level (Circular) for the Head side of the Angle Bracket.

This is one of the best tripods we've found for the price. It is nicely constructed, feels solid, has plenty of desirable features, AND looks nice on the shoot!


I like the leg adjustment clips - they don't pinch and are easy to open and secure. The ball swivel camera mount is super-spiffy too.

works exactly as you would expect!

I bought this adapter to help me get as low to the ground as possible, and I'm quite happy with how the adapter works in that regard. Prior to having this adapter I was using a 3-way head to get as much articulation as possible with the center column being situated horizontally. While I still see where I'll use my 3-way head with this adapter at times, it seems more practical to use a ball head for the majority of my work with this adapter.

I love how small the tripod can be folded into and comes with nice case. The quick latches allow close to the ground, it also comes with a grip head like attachment, making it suitable for you to easily photograph, straight down away from the tripod.  You can also also change the angle of the tripod legs.

The material seems to be a good quality and the ball head is decent quality and the camera plate made out of metal. The tripod feet can either be rubber or you can screw them into reveal the dirt spikes.

The tripod is stable and should hold any SLR, and any reasonable length lens. If you use the grip arm, you may not be able to use a heavy camera and or heavy lens with it.

The only complaint I have is that the instructions are poorly written. See my photo how it goes together. Basically, you thread the stud halfway into the tripod base. Then you can either attach the ball head, or the grip arm to the base. If you are using the grid arm, you will then do the same by screwing in the ball head into another stud at the end of the grip arm.

My tripod is a Uni-Loc (Major 1600). Like the Benbo it has the rotating center column. This makes the Manfrotto 553 right angle bracket a slick accessory for low angle shots. I have dedicated one of my Manfrotto 468MGRC4 ball heads to it. But for any tripod with a center column that can be positioned parallel to the ground this is a worth while accessory for it.
