Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What stylus or cartridge is an easy inexpensive immediate upgrade?

A: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1395896-REG/ortofon_concorde_mkii_mix_cc.html

Q: 2. Can the built-in preamp be completely bypassed so that the output of the cartridge goes directly to the output terminals on the back of the turntable?

A: Yes, the built-in preamp on the AT-LP5X can be bypassed when the preamp selector switch is set to Phono. When Line output is selected the internal preamp is active. The Phono setting is used when you are connecting to an amp with a dedicated phono input which will have its own preamp built-in or if you want to use a separate external preamp. The Line output setting is used when connecting the turntable to an amp that does not have a dedicated phono preamp so the internal preamp on the AT-LP5X will be engaged.

Q: 3. The description says "fully manual" but I see a start-stop button. What exactly does it mean by "fully manual"? Just no auto-return?

A: The tone arm must be manually placed and removed from the record.

Q: 4. Does it come with Audacity software?

A: It is not a Audio Technica made. But you have to dumped from internet. It is Free. Made for PC or Mac. https://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/

Q: 5. Q1. what is the tracking force range for this turntable? Q2. does this manual turntable have an auto park feature or auto shutoff for the tonearm at the end of the last track?

A: thank you for your email. you can adjust from 0-3 grams depending on your cartridge weight. This turntable does have any auto stop or park features.

Q: 6. I can use this turntable for djing

A: Yes! This Fully Manual turntable woud allow it to be used for DJ use.

Q: 7. Question about checking/adjusting the speed using the strobe dots: On the consumer model AT-LP120XUSB it shows that three of the four rows of platter dots correspond to 33, 45, and 78 speeds which seems straightforward. On this model the markings seem to say that the rows of dots instead correspond to relative speed percentages (from the image it looks like +7.2, +3.3, 0, and -3.3%). How do you know which rows of platter dots to use to calibrate to 33, 45, and 78 rpm? Thank you.

A: The Audio-Technica Consumer AT-LP140XP Direct Drive Professional DJ Turntable has two buttons on the left for selecting 33, 45, or 78 RPM (press both together for 78 RPM). The dots next to the numbers for the speed percentages are different sizes. "0" is the indicator for normal speed and it correlates with the largest dot in the strobe display, so if you want the speed to be normal, and not faster or slower, that is the strobe dot to look at when you are calibrating the speed. The "Quartz" button next to the tone arm turns the pitch function on and off. There are tempo range buttons on the right corner along with a pitch control slider switch to adjust the speed, and a selection indicator that lights up blue for standard or locked RPM settings. The stroboscopic lights around the platter work just like a strobe tuner for musical instruments to give you a visual indication of the platter speed. The dots will look like they have stopped moving when the platter is turning at the rated speed, and they will look like they are moving to the left if the platter is turning too fast, and they will look like they are moving to the right, if the platter is turning too slowly. You can find more information about checking and adjusting the pitch controls on page 11 of the user manual: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/642204.pdf

Q: 8. How does this compare to Denon DP-450USB? Trying to decide between the two on B&H site. Thanks

A: Although the Denon is the prettier, more attractive looking TT, the Audio-Technica is the far better value and more robustly built unit. The included cartridge is superior as well.

Q: 9. Hello There! Does this AT-LP140XP turntable have a built in phono pre-amp?

A: This turntable does not have a phono pre-amp, so if you require connecting to active speakers, i would suggest the Rolls VP29 Phono Preamp, BH #ROVP29.

Q: 10. What cartridge should be used to play shellac 78 RPM records?

A: For playing shellac 78 RPM records on the Audio-Technica Consumer AT-LP1240-USB XP Professional DJ Direct-Drive Turntable, you can use the Audio-Technica Consumer AT-VM95SP/H Cartridge and Headshell Combo Kit (B&H # AUATVM95SPH) if you need the headshell as well as the cartridge, or the Audio-Technica Consumer AT-VM95SP Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge (B&H # AUATVM95SP) for the cartridge only.
