Redrock Micro's 8-113-0001 ultraCage Black Studio Bundle for DSLR is a bungle that provides a cage that protects your DSLR and features accessory mounting capabilities. The bundle includes the ultraCage Black Professional Series DSLR, the Universal Shoe Clamp, ultraCage black Rear Chassis Assembly, microMount with spud, 4" Grip Rod, 18" long carbon fiber 15mm rods, 14" carbon fiber 15mm rods, and two top handles. It is designed for most commonly available DSLR cameras and protects your DSLR without blocking any of its functionality.

It provides four individual points of contact, and the provided set screws prevent the camera from twisting. The cage protects your DSLR and provides 24 threaded mounting points that allow you to attach accessories to your DSLR without stressing the camera body. The built-in top mounted rod clamps allow you to mount 15mm rods above the lens for additional accessories. The ultraCage Bundle includes the Universal Shoe Clamp that allows you to use a variety of DSLR cameras in the cage. The included rear chassis provides a second clamping point for top and bottom rods, creating a robust rod setup and provides 48 additional accessory mounting points. The microMount with spud allows you to add a cold shoe accessory mount, and the two included top handles allow you to configure the ultraCage with one or two handles, providing you options in how you wish to hand carry the rig. The carbon fiber rods are sturdy but lightweight and provide support for available rod-mounted accessories.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this cage fit the Sony RX100 Mark IV?

A: The RX100 MKIV will definitely fit, but it's a bit overkill for a smaller camera like Sony point-and-shoots. We recommend using the DSLR baseplate as a good starting point for building a rig for ultra-compact cameras. a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/672648-REG/Redrock_Micro_3_043_0002_DSLR_Baseplate.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/672648-REG/Redrock_Micro_3_043_0002_DSLR_Baseplate.html/a

Q: 2. I have this item, but I am looking to purchase the 2 pieces from the picture that are greyed out. I think one is the ultraPlate for the Blackmagic Camera but where can I find the smaller piece that fits into it?

A: The only item I was able to find that included both the ultraPlate and the cold shoe to cage top connector was this item:Redrock Micro ultraCage Black BMCC Deluxe Cage Upgrade Kit - B&H # RE81310015 - MFR # 8-131-0015I was unable to find the cold show to cage connector separately, even on Redrock Micro's web site.I am glad I got this unit though, as the handle is definitely a great item to have on the cage for lugging around a fully loaded camera kit.

Q: 3. Will this support a Canon 1DX?

A: Unfortunately the Redrock Micro ultraCage Scout HX only supports cameras up to 125mm in height. Canon's EOS-1D X is measured at 164mm tall. The EOS-1D X Mark II and Mark III are measured at 166mm.

Q: 4. How reliable is this? And can we map the focus throw to whatever degrees we want? i.e. a lens with a 240 degree throw we can map it to 90 degrees on the thumbwheel?

A: Very! And by that I am assuming you mean repeatable. It's also extremely solidly built, so it won't just break down into bits while you use it. Mine had a bit of motor jitter, which annoyed me. But Redrock support was extremely helpful and pointed out to me that you can in fact control the amount of torque on the motor so I managed to dial it down to a point where I am now extremely happy with the responsiveness.Regarding remapping the throw of your lens, it actually works the other way. No matter what the throw of your lens, the Scout will remap it to 270 degrees. It would have been cool if they allowed us some control on the remapped angle, but in practice I have seen it doesn't really matter, because most of the time you don't really rack focus from infinity to the minimum distance your lens supports. You only need half that ability in most cases, and even less if you are following some form of action, like a dance or a group of actors etc.

Q: 5. their 15mm rods will not fit into the baseplate of this cage. Any suggestions?

A: Adam, your issue about rods not fitting the ultraCage and the OConnor O-Box suggests that you need to open the locks on the cage's 15mm mounts. The 15mm LWS is a world standard and such components from all manufacturers are supposed to interchange seamlessly. Q: 7. I want to use this on the Dji Ronin M, What else do I need to buy to make this work? Just a Ptap Cable to power it from the Ronin M? I basically want to be able to be a single operator with the thumb controller. Where Can I find out what all I need to make this work. I live in South America and do not want to have to order some other part after the fact. Thanks for any information as I am looking for a solution for one man operation with a ronin m, a7sII an Loxia lens. I know I need the gear straps for the lens, but is there anything else I need? Extra plates, arms or anything for the ronin to get this set up and work, Plan on using a smallhd502 on the ronin handles. Thanks for any information.

A: Hi EricThere's a lot of ground to cover there. what I recommend is picking up the remote fingerwheel bundle without cables, and get the DJI specific cable pack:a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1140914-REG/redrock_micro_8_114_0011_microremote_handheld_fingerwheel_bndle.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1140914-REG/redrock_micro_8_114_0011_microremote_handheld_fingerwheel_bndle.html/aa href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1111304-REG/redrock_micro_8_100_0007_dji_ronin_microremote.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1111304-REG/redrock_micro_8_100_0007_dji_ronin_microremote.html/afor mounting the motor, you'll want the rhino mount, probably 4 a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1176779-REG/redrock_micro_2_167_0002_rhino_mount_shoe_mount_clamp.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1176779-REG/redrock_micro_2_167_0002_rhino_mount_shoe_mount_clamp.html/afor lens gears, you might be best to go with a kit that covers all possible lens sizes (though loxia are typically A or B sized lens gears)a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/748784-REG/Redrock_Micro_8_003_0107_microLensGears_Kit_4.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/748784-REG/Redrock_Micro_8_003_0107_microLensGears_Kit_4.html/aFor mounting the 502 monitor, you can look at the billie ball mount as a low profile ball mount that attaches to the DJI accessory platea href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/970766-REG/redrock_micro_2_138_0001_billie_ball_mount.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/970766-REG/redrock_micro_2_138_0001_billie_ball_mount.html/ahope that helps

Q: 8. How can you change the focus throw?? I get how to change Gain/smoothness but want to adjust the throw. At the moment, if you turn the Remote only a few millimetres it will focus the lens quite extremely. I hope that makes sense!?

A: Hi Dane - the microRemote has 270 degrees of throw which should be more than enough for almost any lens (with the exception of macro lenses that have )you can manually calibrate to a portion of the lens' throw so you can get even more granularity for shots that have limited range. If you are looking for additional support and you own a microRemote please contact our support group at support@redrockmicro.com - they can offer more assistance there. Thanks

Q: 9. Can this rig work with the Ronin M?

A: Yes the Redrock Micro microRemote Handheld is so compact it is designed to work on stabilizers as well as conventional set-up's.

Q: 10. What kind of connector is there under this rig? I would like to know if I can attach the Ronin plate to it.

A: There is a 3/8 and 1/4 thread. Pretty standard. I would think you could put on just about any manufacturer's tripod plate.

This follow focus system is extremely simple to use. All you need is 2 AA batteries in the remote, and a power source for the basestation. We use this system on our RED Helium, and plug the basestation power cable into a v-mount battery on the back of the camera via the included D-tap cable. Once you connect the motor to a rail and plug it into the basestation, boom, it is up and running. Very reliable.

Kit came with everything I needed. Wireless Focus has great range, but more impressive is the fingerwheel to pull focus on your own!

Hard case to hold everything is a great plus, highly recommended!

Redrocks microRemote is a solid, dependable unit backed by good support. I have had mine for four years. At one point, I accidentally damaged the antenna on the receiver and needed to replace it. Redrock sent me the parts either for free or for a very small charge. They have been very quick to respond to me when Ive had questions as well.

Redrock also updates the firmware periodically. The v4 update added remote calibration (so you can calibrate lenses from the remote instead of from the receiver). I cant count how many times Ive forgotten to calibrate after a lens swap and then walk away from the camera. Or if Im working with an AC, I often handle the motor gear setup and auto-calibrate for my AC. If I forget, now my AC can do it remotely. Great! The firmware is at v5 now, so that shows their commitment to providing product value.

The unit is solid and well built. Ive never had an issue with the power of the motor when using it with the Rokinon set or Canons CN-E series. The motor has a nice feathering to avoid hard focus stops. And you can crank the gain up or down.

Ive also never had a problem using it at a distance, but the remote is usually pretty close to the receiver in my setups.

The ability to switch directions from the receiver is great. I tend to use it backwards from how traditional ACs do, so this helps a lot.

Overall, this is an excellent product that I intend to keep using for years to come.

The only issue I have with the unit is that the battery plate requires a small philips head screwdriver to remove. This can slow things down during production, so I discarded the screws and used gaffers tape to keep the plate in place. Much faster!
