Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it come with an SD card?

A: No it does not.

Q: 2. does the lenshood fit in there too?

A: This case would not fit the Camera with the Lens Hood attached. My apologies.

Q: 3. Will it fix Leica type 246?

A: Better ask Leica for a final answer. However, I assume the half case will fit all of the TYP 240 - 262 digital M bodies. The M10 is slimmer and so the half case would be too large on the M10.

Q: 4. Since there is no bayer filter, would this camera be a good candidate for IR photography with an appropriate filter?

A: The Leica Q2 Monochrom Digital Camera does not capture much infrared so your exposure will be very long. For best infrared photos the camera must be converted by removing the infrared filter that is in front of the camera by a technician.

Q: 5. Will there be a handle/grip?

A: You can use this Really Right Stuff L-plate grip for the Q2: https://bhpho.to/35fm6Ye

Q: 6. Does it works for Leica M7 and M9-P???

A: Yes this in compatible with both those models.

Q: 7. Will this fit a Leica M-P Type 240?

A: Yes. The size is good fit my Leica MP 240 body. I thought this leather case is made in Germany by Leica. When I received I found out that it is made in the cheap labor country China. The quality is not bad. I got the impression that $159 is slightly expensive because it is made in China

Q: 8. How do video files compare with type 246 ones?

A: The Leica Q2 Monochrom Digital Camera can shoot 4k video. So, that alone will be better than the Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) for video. The Q2 has way more resolution and can shoot much better in low light.

Q: 9. Will this fit a Leica M6?

A: Yes it is designed for Leica M and M-P digital cameras including the M6.

Q: 10. Hi, can you kindly email to my address a photo of the back side of the Leica protector? Many thank and regards.Paolo Bon

A: Here is a link to Leica's Site with a photo of the case from the back. Link: http://bit.ly/1luO2xt

Got this case on my M240-P. Slide camera into it easily and it's seamless fit. Love it.

Before purchasing this camera, I owned the regular Q2 (color). I kept reading and watching reviews about the magical feel that the sensor of the Monochrome Q renders. I was beyond skeptical. After all, I could simply take a raw picture on my Q2... run it through Lightroom, and turn the image B&W-- isn't it just that simple? But curiosity got the best of me simply because I couldn't find a negative review about the Monochrom camera anywhere. One day I found an open box used Monochrom for sale here on B&H (for a price that I would now consider a steal). I figured I'd give it a try-- if it didn't deliver, I could just return it-- right? The camera eventually arrived. I stuck the battery in with a SD card-- eager to see this so-called magic. And WOW.....

The first image I took with the camera left me stunned. I felt goosebumps rise on my skin. The tonality, the clarity, I didn't think a monochrome image could render such depth! Did realize there were so many shades of color within B&W. The image felt emotive-- there was a pop to it. Some have called it the Medium format look. I call it the WOW-effect.
I know this sounds like cool-aid talk. I get it. I used to think the price tag of this camera is crazy-- especially for a tool that only takes B&W photos. But once you start shooting with this camera, you'd come to realize that it's probably one of the best cameras ever made...period. This thing is a Porsche!

I love this camera, but it's hard to describe why. It does take wonderful, three-dimensional pictures, but more than that, it seems to open up artful possibilities in everyday situations. Perhaps because it's so easy to use. You don't have to fiddle with modes, you rarely have to dig through menus, you don't need to plan your shot (or lens choice!) well in advance. You just dial in the basics - shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and metering, or leave any of them in Auto, and the camera gives consistently good results. The all-metal construction feels great in the hands and seems built for a lifetime. I do wind up running photos from the Q2M through Radiant, Lightroom, or Luminar post processing, though. The photos straight out of the camera (jpg or dng) can look a little dull until you polish them. I've already taken some of my lifetime favorite photos in the few weeks I've been using this camera. It's simply a joy to use, and that's reflected in the quality of shots you can take. If you enjoy using a camera, you'll take better shots, IMO. I recommend the handgrip accessory, as the camera body without it doesn't have a comfortable handhold.

Recently getting a new M (TYP262) & the Summarit-M 50mm f/2.3 lens (and SF40 flash) in the Leica bundled kit, I knew that a hard case would make immediate sense as a means to protect my new camera and investment. Although expensive, the Leica-branded half case is superbly manufactured, fits perfectly, safely protects the camera as intended, and, gives more support when hand-holding the M camera. I know feel that my camera is easier to hold securely and won't slip out of my hand. I have always been a big fan of grips and half cases with my other camera brands owned, and I'd say the workmanship and quality the Leica half case is worth the cost. I cannot imagine using an expensive M rangefinder and Leica lens without the leather half case in place.

Wow! What more can I say. The images are amazing. I'm more of a 50mm photographer so I'm learning the love the 28mm lens as much as I love the camera itself! It goes with me everywhere! I was hestitant to spend that much money but I have no regrets having used the Q2M for a couple weeks.

I was born and raised in a dark room. This brings me back to possessing 4X5 sheet film. The images from this camera are noting but outstanding.
This is the best piece of photographic equipment I have ever owned.
Amazing ! In every way. Worth every penny .

After years of shooting film professionaly on 4x5, 2 1/4, 35 mm, working in both B/W and color labs through college and after, I have finally found a digital camera that stands up to the medium.
I own older digilux and V Lux cameras, but this is another animal altogether.
The Q2M is the ultimate 'street photographer' camera. It's just a dream to walk around with and capture the moments, be it a friends party, a cityscape, a wedding, an interesting landscape, an old building... and on. The lens is exquisote and has a bokeh like none other.
F1.8 turns photographs into paintings.
The camera size is perfect. Big enough that all the controls are right there, small enough to be unobtrusive and concealed.
The image quality is breathtaking.
Even at larger print sizes, the clarity is holographic.
I also highly recommend the handgrip, thumbgrip, and finger loop. Worth every penny and really adds a level of safety and control when handling the camera.
If you want to shoot B/W, this is the way to go.
Can't wait for the Q3... I have a feeling it will be breathtaking as well...

I took a photography class in early 90s using b/w film and learned how to develop and make my own prints. I even had (still have bit don’t use) an enlarger and all the other stuff for a a makeshift dark room.

Then I gave up with the film v digital a few years later.

I have been using Nikon gear for years including film cameras in the beginning. Now I have some Nikon Z gear and really love it.

For years and years I have seen Leica cameras and thought “why are they so expensive?”. Not that Nikon isn’t but the Leica just seemed different and I maintained a curiosity about them but never really got too deep in the study of why Leica?

A couple months ago I came across some info about the Leica Monochrom Q2M. I read reviews and was able to see some incredible images others captured with them. So one day I took the plunge and ordered one.

I had no idea how much I would love it!!! I am still learning and have lots of room for improvement but I am much more likely to grab the Leica bag if I head out the door for whatever reason.

I still love my Nikon but I also really love the Q2M.

The decision process is simpler with the Q2M.
Q - What lens?
A - Always the same… 28mm

Q - Color or B/W
A - Always B/W

Composition is important but with the high resolution images are easily cropped (digital zoom).

AND the Leica FOTO app is great for remote camera functions.
