The 128GB IronKey Keypad 200 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 Flash Drive from Kingston is an OS-independent hardware-encrypted USB drive with an alphanumeric keypad for user-friendly PIN access. Built with a capacity of 128GB, it features XTS-AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption and is FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified for military-grade security. On the physical level, its circuits are covered by a layer of epoxy that makes it virtually impossible to remove components without damaging them.

There is also a Multi-PIN option, which lets the keypad be used to create a PIN for admins or users. After ten consecutive failed user login attempts, the drive will lock, and after 10 consecutive failed admin login attempts, Brute Force attack protection will crypto-erase the drive, destroy the data forever, and reset it. Also provided are two levels of Read-Only modes, which can be set depending if you're an admin or a user.

Kingston's IronKey Keypad 200 connects to your host system using a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 interface that delivers read speeds of up to 145 MB/s and write speeds of up to 115 MB/s. It is powered by an internal rechargeable battery.

The KP200 now meets the FIPS 140-3 Level 3 military-grade security specifications published by NIST. This is an enhanced version of the FIPS 140-2 specifications that further enhances the drive's security capabilities and tamper-resistance. It includes XTS-AES 256-bit encryption along with Brute Force and BadUSB attack protection with digitally signed firmware. Its circuitry is covered by a layer of special epoxy that makes it virtually impossible to remove components without damaging them; this tough epoxy stops attacks against the semiconductor components.

With the KP200 utilizing a rechargeable battery, the keypad can be used to unlock the drive without using any software, and then plug it into any system that supports a USB-A mass storage device. This gives users the most flexibility across different platform types and operating systems.

Users have the option to set up a User or an Admin/User mode. Admin can be used to restore a User PIN and provide access to the drive should the User PIN be forgotten or if the drive is locked after reaching the maximum of 10 User login attempts.

Both Admin and User can set a session-based Read-Only mode to protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems. Admin can also set a Global Read-Only mode that sets the drive in Read-Only mode until reset.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work well for long (4+ hours) continuous multitrack recording on a laptop? I've had overheating issues with other usb flash drives where the recording will stop after a couple of hours.

A: Flash drives are not really designed for that kind of sustained use. The passive cooling and small surface area are not ideal for heat dissipation for a sustained use as long as 4 hours. My best advice is to get a proper portable SSD drive designed for those types of workflows. Something like the G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C mobile SSD BH #GT0G06052 would be far more suitable thanks to its Aluminum core which will prevent overheating and maintain high performance in sustained workloads.

Q: 2. How long is the recording time for shooting 4K on RAW with the BMPC 4K?

A: In 4K raw you will get about 20 minutes.

Q: 3. Is this drive factory pre-formatted in FAT32 or NTFC ?

A: The manufacturer has not provided/published that information but with most drives of this kind, the format will be either FAT32 or exFAT, not NTFS.

Q: 4. Is it FAT32 or NTFS ?

A: The unit comes preformatted for EXFat You are welcome to reformat it to what you need.

Q: 5. I think the picture is wrong. The picture says its the 3.0 USB stick, but the item is the 3.1 USB stick, they look different? Whats up with this, I dont want the 3.0

A: The picture is wrong. I just bought it last week. I have the 256 GB and it s a 3.1 USB and mine is silver, not black.Sorry that they posted the wrong pictureBTW, they also have the very same exact design and look, but it is the 3.0 USB. When you order, make sure you order the 3.1 USB. I would go by the spec's and not the picture to order

Q: 6. Does this fit into the 2.5 form factor?

A: Yes

Q: 7. Will this work with Android? Specifically Samsung Galaxy 21 and Tab8+

A: The Kingston 4TB XS2000 USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 External Solid State Drive (B&H # KISXS20004KG) can be used for storage when attached to Android devices with a USB-C port.

Q: 8. how to transfer external hdd to pc ?

A: You would need a USB adapter to connect the drive externally (http://bhpho.to/1kwyp4c) The linked Apricorn SATA Wire 3.0 Notebook Hard Drive Upgrade Kit includes software to assist you in copying your drive as well.

Q: 9. WORKS WITH MAC?

A: Yes it comes formated as Fat32 and can work with Mac and Windows. I got three of them. I have one formated to NTFS for certain Windows work, left one Fat32 and formated one to Mac Journaled. I have been running Sierra off one for a few days now for testing an app. Sierra loads in about 20 seconds on a well loaded 2015 Macbook Pro. Even though they run slower then advertised they are still fast.

Q: 10. I don't know what backward compatible means but will this work on my 5yr old laptop 2.0 usb & I want to add the music to my new 30-day old laptop, will this work? (if B&H says it won't fit please say a little more because I thought usb ports were made the same size)

A: If you have a 5 year old computer that has USB 2.0 interface, The PNY Technologies 256GB Elite-X Fit USB 3.1 Gen 1 Flash Drive is compatible with it.
