Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. IIs this lens any good for night sky?

A: The HD Pentax 15mm f/4 can be used for night photography if you have a tripod and don't mind star trails. If you're looking to capture photos of sharp stars, I would consider a lens with a wider aperture.

Q: 2. Is it for the K1?

A: This is a DA lens...meaning designed for APS-C Sensors. It will work on the K-1 because the K-1 will just use the part of its sensor that is APS-C size. Pentax Full Frame lenses are labeled FA .

Q: 3. How is this different from the older DA version with green ring?

A: The lens coating has been updated from the older Pentax SMC to the current HD coating. The optical design of the lens is otherwise unchanged.

Q: 4. 15mm f/4 pentax lens......what does limited mean ?

A: Limited is the designation Pentax uses for a line of high quality prime lenses, 15.21.35.40,and 70mm. They have the highest quality construction values and optics, but primarily they are smaller in size. Incredible lenses.

Q: 5. are the silver lenses made of aluminum?

A: They do not specify what material it is made of, but it is an all metal build.

Q: 6. Is this lens water-resistant?

A: No, it isn't.Pentax designates weather-resistant lenses with the letters WR, which are not on this lens..There is no gasket on the mount, for instance. The D-FA 100 mm macro lens, and the 20-40 Limited lens are WR, as are versions of the kit zooms and the 55-300.Their top level of weather-proofing (on the star lenses) is designated AW, for all-weather.

Q: 7. pentax 15mm with pentax k70 ?

A: Yes the Pentax HD Pentax DA 15mm f/4 ED AL Limited Lens is compatible with the Pentax K70 camera.

Q: 8. are the silver lenses made of aluminum?

A: According to the press release that was released on August 27, 2013, the Limited lenses' (such as the Pentax HD Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited Lens (Silver), B&H # PE2132DALS) lens barrel, hood, and cap are all made of a high-grade aluminum material, hand-machined for perfect proportions and beautiful texture. All of the lenses come in a silver version in addition to the black version.

Q: 9. Is this for cropped sensors only? Would this not work on a K-1 mk II?

A: The Pentax HD Pentax DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Lens (Black) is only for Pentax cropped sensor cameras. The lens is incompatible since the Pentax K-1 Mark II DSLR Camera is full-frame.

Q: 10. Country of Origin?

A: The country of origin is Vietnam.

Excellent prime lens for landscape and travel. Picture quality is outstanding. Solid built and light. I have the silver one and it is beautiful. Some users complain about the screw in lens cap.. I bought a SENSEI clip-on lens cap$ to solve the problem. Also some mentioned the fact that it would be difficult to use Cokin/Lee filter systems due to the built in lens hood. I put a Hoya UV filter on it and it protrudes enough to get my COKIN system working. So... GREAT LENS, all positive!

Full landscape shots are great. Light weight is a real plus along with small size. I like the built in sunshade and metal exterior.

I've had this lens for about five weeks and I am very glad that I bought it. Here are a few reasons why I say that: 1) The lens appears to be very well constructed. It has a solid feel to it. 2) I love the color and contrast that I see in photos taken with this lens. I feel that this lens is sharp and that the general image quality is quite high. 3) The lens focuses quickly and accurately. This lens also has what Pentax calls a Quick-shift focus system. This permits you to adjust the focus manually even when your camera is set to auto focus. I have this feature on other lenses that I own and I have found it to be very useful. 4) I like the retractable lens hood. 5) I like the focal length. This compliments the HD Pentax-DA 21mmF3.2 Limited which I recently acquired. I use both of these lenses for general photography and especially for landscape and flower pictures. 6) I appreciate the light weight of this lens. I enjoy not having to carry around a heavy zoom when I'm out for a day of picture taking. 7) Considering the build quality and the high image quality of this lens I feel that its cost is very reasonable. So far the only thing I would count as a negative is that it is an f4 rather than f2.8 lens. This really hasn't been much of an issue though.

A light weight champion, built like a tank, weights nothing and looks like a jewel.

There's no Prime lens in Pentax (respect) to compete this glass and the Zoom alternatives are 2-3 times heavier, uglier and can't give you in real life the joy of this lens. The Pentax 10-17 images have fish eye distortions, the DA* 11-18 is 3 times more expensive and bulky and the 12-24 is does not simply push you into inspirational photography.

It's f/4 may be not as bright/fast as other but the compromise in 1 stop difference is insignificant.

This Gem produces amazing photos in ultra wide prime and is one, among many, reasons why I insist that you don't even need to bother buying other non-Pentax lenses.

From street photography to indoor shots, this lens will make you happy.

I knew this lens would be great for taking photos of rooms, landscapes and close ups of the noses of family members. However, one finds it works in lots of situations. It is no way a walk around lens, but it is a prime I will want with me and will use often. The fact the lens is slow (only f4) is not a tremendous problem since at a focal length of 15mm, you can take shots at 1/30 or even 1/15 th of second and get away with it. I found the lens noticeably not as sharp wide open as when it is stopped down a little (in which case it is quite sharp).

One of the best lenses I've ever had. Colors are crisp and clear. Fast focus too. This is a great lens for landscape photography and I've been very happy with the results.
