A fast, versatile prime, this 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens from Sigma is designed for use with APS-C-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords extensive control over depth of field for using selective focus techniques. The optical design features a pair of aspherical elements, along with one high-refractive index element, which significantly reduces spherical aberrations and distortion for increased clarity and definition for notably sharp image quality. Also, a Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to control lens flare and ghosting in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, benefitting both stills shooting and video recording, this compact prime also incorporates a stepping AF motor for smooth, near-silent autofocus performance. A rubber sealing at the lens mount helps protect against dust and other elements entering the lens or camera.

Normal-length prime is designed for APS-C-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 45mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field for achieving selective focus effects.
Two aspherical elements and one high-refractive index element are used to limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
A stepping AF motor benefits both photographers and videographers with its fast, precise, and near-silent performance.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Does it fit to Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM Art Lens?
A: It does not, this is for the Contemporary model. For the Art model you will need BH #SILH68601. BH #SILH68601 is the Sigma Lens Hood for 30mm f/1.4 Art DC HSM Lens. https://bhpho.to/2YkBctE
Q: 2. If I'm looking for a good prime that can be used well for both portrait and landscape, is this a good choice?
A: Yes. I am very happy with this lens. I have a bevy of lenses including Leica, Nikkor, Zeiss and so forth and the sharpness and contrast in this lens is exceptional. I have used it for both landscapes (especially multi-image stitches) and portraits. It's superb on a Lumix GH5 and GX8.
Q: 3. Hi! What I don't get, it's if I use it on my a6500 I'll be a 30mm lens or 45mm. Thanks!
A: It will be a 30 mm crop sensor lens on your a6500. To get the same view on a full frame camera like the a7 series, you would use a 45 mm full frame lens. You should find the lens very sharp and useful on your 6500 although the colors would need to be increased slightly in post processing.
Q: 4. Is this good for street photography? I'm looking at a 25mm but this looks good as well, is 30mm too narrow?
A: Yes, it good and very sharp
Q: 5. Is this one reversible?
A: Yes this lens hood can be reversed.
Q: 6. How fast is the auto focus for video?
A: This lens does have a very fast auto-focus. The speed is also determined by the camera itself. Make sure that the settings are set for faster auto-focus as well for the best usage.
Q: 7. I wonder how much vignetting the lens will produce on the A7 series... Any guess?
A: None if you use it on APS-C mode, switching to full frame mode will render it useless, however.
Q: 8. is this lens compatible with Sony Next-5N?
A: As the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E uses the Sony E-mount, and the Sony Alpha NEX-5N Digital Camera uses the Sony E-mount, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E is fully compatible with the Sony Alpha NEX-5N Digital Camera, and no adapter is needed to connect the lens to the camera.
Q: 9. According to some reviews, CA is very strong in this lens, can anybody check this?
A: The lens is very new and there are not very many real life reviews.Till more reviews come out it is very hard to be sure but from the specifications and the small reviews that are out it seems to be a good lens with very little CA.
Q: 10. Does this lens resist cold or hot well?
A: I went to Iceland in April and it was pretty cold. This lens was on the camera 90% of the time 2000 pics. The lens held up well against the cold and light rain. Be aware that I was using a rain cover to protect the lens and a6000 during significant down pour. I was little paranoid that one day I will wake up and see condensation on the inside but it never happened... Even when I didn't take extreme care to acclimate the lens when going from cold outside to warm inside. After 2 yrs it is still going well. Focus is smooth as ever and focus by wire mechanism is also very smooth.
