Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can the iKlear antimicrobial Microfiber Cloth be used to clean camera lens?

A: yes you can clean all your lenses with very good results

Q: 2. Can this be washed? Obviously it will get dirty....thanks!

A: Yes, it can even be machine washed.

Q: 3. Am I able to pick a color? If not, what color is being sent out?

A: They sent me whatever color they had in stock. I purchased two cloths, and I received a silver-gray one in the mail, and then a week later, an orange one. Regardless of the colors, the cloths work as advertised.

Q: 4. Is this leather or cloth?

A: Bluestar Large Chamois Cleaning Cloth is a type of soft pliable leather now made from sheepskin or lambskin.

Q: 5. Is this essentially the same stuff as Pancro Optical Cleaner and Eclipse Sensor/Optics cleaner? I use Pancro for my lenses and Eclipse for my digital sensors, but need something to clean my scanner platen. I hear Purosol is good, but will my Pancro or Eclipse do the same exact thing?

A: If you want more detailed info. on a product, I suggest you Google MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). I chose Purosol because they claim it contains no harmful solvents, and 'trusted' by an extensive range of professionals. Pancro touts 'fast drying'. Alcohol is fast drying. I'd definitely look at their MSDS. You never ever want to use alcohol on a coated lens, which all camera lenses have. I assume you have checked the 3-star rating on 'Eclipse'? Not encouraging. Finally, any scanner platen's I've seen are just plain glass. Walmart's el cheapo glass cleaner is all I use for a cleaning platen. It has ammonia. Works great on glass, but never, ever on a lens. What makes a quality lens cleaner expensive is the process: a good lab uses a safe room , (dust free ventilation). And at least a distillation process, a deionization filter, and pH adjusted to neutral 7.0. All this takes time and costs big bucks. My sense is that is at least part of the process used by Purosol. Anway, it's what I feel most comfortable using on my lenses for whatever that's worth?

Q: 6. Is this for a single cloth or four cloths?

A: It comes with only 1 cloth. The cloth is 12 x 15 in size and comes with a protective plastic envelope.

Q: 7. Is the color grey as shown in the photo? (I ask because B+W makes several colors.)

A: Yes, mine is like the one shown here. Antoine P.

Q: 8. How do you wash this cloth?

A: I wash mine in the washing machine in a normal cycle with an extra rinse using a 'light' washing machine detergent like 'Greenworks' or 'Wool-lite' i.e. - staying away from fragrances / extra additives so as to eliminate as many potential residues as possible. This has worked well for me.

Q: 9. Can you machine wash the cloth?

A: Microfiber cloth is delicate so no, I do not recommend putting it in a washing machine.Every three or four months I take my dirty lens cloth and carefully hand wash them with mild soap. After thoroughly rinsing with cool water twice, lay them flat inside a clean and dry folded bath towel in a dry warm room.In a couple hours they should be ready for use. I handle the cleaned cloth with lint-free gloves and put them in re-usable sandwich bags.Open line drying is a bad idea as dirt and sand blown in the air will collect in the cloth. It is a easy way to scratch expensive lenses.

Q: 10. Is the fabric more like an eyeglass cleaning cloth?

A: Yes. It is a very fine fiber-like material. It is good for wiping LCD/LED monitors or other glass surfaces.

I have used these microfiber clothes for cleaning my glasses and camera lenses for years. There is always at least one in each of my camera bags. Big enough to do the job. Easy to wash. Zeiss is a brand you can trust.

PLEASE do not spend $20.00 on an Apple branded microfiber cloth. You can get 6 of these for the same price and they are just as high quality if not better - and they are quite large. If you are looking for a microfiber cloth, look no further - you just can't beat the quality/price ratio.

The Zeiss Jumbo microfiber cleaning cloth is the best lens cleaner I have ever used.
I had used other cleaning cloths that were too small and left smudges.
These are large (12x16) and are perfect. They don't leave smudges or lint particles.
I use them for my camera lenses, reading glasses and sunglasses.
Glad I found out how great Zeiss Cleaning Cloths are!

I've tried many other cleaning clothes and this one consistently stood out as the best! Bonus that it's larger!

Thes lense cloths are very effective for cleaning lenses wet or dry. They do not smudge or smear, and they are gentle on lense coatings. The price is such that I can have new ones around everywhere: car, camera bag, computer bag, etc.
