Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Can this be powered by a USB port on a computer or USB battery pack?
A: This is designed to be powered over USB and should work fine.
Q: 2. Does it come with the small bolt to secure the end of the drive?
A: Yes, a small screw, in a little bag taped to the side.
Q: 3. Is this capable of RAID?
A: This PCIe SATA 6 Gb/s controller card does not support RAID.
Q: 4. Will this work for only two monitors? I have two 24 16:10 LCDs and would like to know if I can put them side by side while I wait to get the third monitor. I would attach them to the outer mounts if they arms bend enough to push them together.
A: You could try but you will need an extra weight for support on the base as it will be a bit unstable.
Q: 5. I ordered this a couple months ago and wanted to know if my 22' monitor will be able to be mounted? i tried and didnt work is there something im missing if so please tell me and if you can help that would be great!
A: Should have 4 holes on back of screen line them up with the four holes on mounting bracket you need to supply your own hardware if you can't mount all three screens at once your missing the extension arms which is the problem I had
Q: 6. Can you Raid with this card?
A: The StarTech 4-Port (2 Internal/2 External) PCIe SATA 6 Gb/s Controller Card B&H # STPEXEST322I does not have a built in RAID controller.
Q: 7. Bought a new Dell 8930 at the same time I purchased this I put a Samsung 970 EVO M.2. SSD in and installed it in a PCIEx4 slot. I can see and use the card but the Dell will not do a "Restart" I have to do a shut down and then cold boot to get the computer to work. If I just hit a restart (in a software upgrade for example) the Dell will not do the restart it freezes with no video and I have to do a hard shut down and a cold boot. I worked with Dell for days on the problem, I"ve talked with Samsung and with StarTech. If I pull the adapter with the drive the computer works perfect so it is something with the combination of the card and the SSD in the PCIE slot. Windows 10 pro is Up To Date, All Drivers are up to date and everything works except when I need to do a "Restart" it is a real pain when I have to do a major update I need to pull the card or the update does not get done. Does anyone else have the same Problem?
A: This is a sounding like a limitation on that PCI-e port. Now if its just to hold sample data, and not bootable it might be best to see if the bios has initialization of all formatted drives before start up disabled, and see if you have better results.
Q: 8. I want to use a portkeys bm5 and an atem mini pro with my bmpcc 6k. both need HDMI capabilities, will this splitter allow me to accomplish what I need?
A: In theory yes this should work. This takes a single HDMI input and splits it out to two. However you are not going to be able to control the Pocket 6K from the ATEM Switcher like you would with a direct connection.
Q: 9. Where is the best place to locate this unit. Close to the camera or close to the projector?
A: You can place it at either location and it wouldn't affect performance.
Q: 10. Is there a limit for input cable length? I need to plug in a 25' cable as an input. A previous switch I tried could not accommodate this. Apparently there was too much signal loss.
A: This device does not have a cable length limit. Your results will vary depending on what brand cable you are using and if you use any signal boosting/extending equipment with it. For instance, You mentioned that you attempted to plug a 25ft HDMI cable into a device and it resulted in signal loss but It might work if you attempt to use a different cable such as one made by Kramer or Comprehensive. Another solution may be adding a signal booster like the StarTech HDBOOST4K HDMI 4K Signal Booster (114.8'). There are other solutions as well such as extending over cat-6 cable, fiber, or BNC cables which all perform much better over long distances. Ultimately the solution to your problem lies in how the signal is sent to the switcher not in the switcher itself.
