Boasting updated video capabilities and a refined design, the Panasonic Lumix GH5 II provides a professional-quality imaging platform for shooters who demand versatile video and stills capabilities in a single compact camera. Featuring a 20.3MP Live MOS sensor with AR coating, the camera records DCI and UHD 4K with the full sensor area and can output 10-bit 4:2:0 internally up to 60p, or 4:2:2 at 30p. The GH5 II offers unlimited video recording for less downtime when filming, and the camera ships with preinstalled V-Log L for multi-camera recording, making it easy to match the color tone with the footage recorded by other VariCam-series cameras. The included DMW-BLK22 battery provides approximately 410 shots per charge when using the rear monitor or electronic viewfinder, and the high-capacity battery can be quickly charged with the bundled USB 3.1 Type-C cable. You can also supply continuous power to the camera while shooting photos and video via the included USB cable.

A 3" 1.84m-dot rear TFT LCD monitor provides flexible framing, high visibility, and vivid color to support viewing from a variety of angles. An updated 5-axis sensor stabilization system works with Lumix O.I.S lenses to activate Dual I.S. 2 for highly effective shake correction. Previously limited to 5 stops of shake reduction, this now means you can compensate for up to 6.5 stops of shutter speed. A Depth-from-Defocus autofocus system benefits both still and video recording modes ensuring fast and precise focus. The GH5 II features human face, eye, head, body, and animal recognition. Deep Learning technology detects the eye and face approximately twice as fast as the GH5 allowing you to concentrate on the composition of your photos and videos. Designed for today's creators and audiences, the easy-to-use Lumix Sync app for smartphones and tablets provides high-quality livestreaming with minimum equipment. Livestreaming via a router is available as well with Lumix Network Setting Software. Whether indoors or outdoors, only the camera and a smartphone are required to reach an audience, making the GH5 II an ideal camera for electronic news gathering, travel, event, lecture, and live commerce applications.

Featuring a 20.3MP Digital Live MOS sensor with a newly developed AR Coating, the GH5 II boasts an evolved Venus Engine Imaging Processor. These updates suppress ghosting and flare in backlit scenes, offer a 25% increase in dynamic range, and improve color gradation and reproduction. Multipixel Luminance Generation technology maximizes sharpness and faithfully reproduces brightly illuminated scenes. It offers excellent three-dimensional color control and precise noise reduction techniques for shooting at sensitivities up to ISO 25600. It also enables shooting speeds up to 12 fps with AF-S or manual focus modes.

The GH5 II features outstanding video performance for professional videography and is capable of unlimited video recording in various settings. It can record DCI and UHD 4K 60p 4:2:0 10-bit and simultaneously output 4:2:2 10-bit over HDMI during 4K 60p 4:2:0 10-bit internal recording. An HDMI port is present on the camera for high-quality output for use with external monitors and recorders. The camera also offers high bit rate recording for highly detailed images free of compression artifacts.

For more advanced users, multiple picture styles provide two types of Cinelike gamma presets in the Photo Style. With these modes warm skin tones or delicate nuances of light and shadow can be reproduced without color grading over V-Log footage. The Cinelike D2 setting gives priority to dynamic range while Cinelike V2 prioritizes contrast. L. Monochrome S and L. Classic Neo have also been added, and all these modes can be used for anamorphic video recording.

The GH5 II is designed to be an expandable system, with multiple options available to help improve video recording capabilities. Examples of this are an optional XLR Microphone Adapter that provides XLR inputs and physical controls through a hot shoe connection. Users can also use standard microphones and headphones via the 3.5mm input and output jacks.

Designed for ENG, travel, event, lecture, and live commerce applications, the easy-to-use Lumix Sync app provides high-quality livestreaming with minimum equipment. Whether indoors or outdoors, only the camera and a smartphone are required. Livestreaming via a router is available as well with Lumix Network Setting Software. Additionally, wired USB-LAN IP livestreaming will be supported by a future firmware update.

Boasting a high-speed, high precision autofocus system, the GH5 II incorporates advanced deep learning technology to detect specific subjects including humans and fast-moving animals. Improved tracking performance quickly recognizes the face and eyes of moving subjects and the human body from a background of moving subjects. The camera keeps tracking the subject even if they move quickly, turn their back to the camera, tilt their head, or move far away. This contrast-detection type focus method benefits both still and video recording modes, as well as subject-tracking applications where color, size, and motion vectors are used to intelligently lock onto the moving subjects and ensure precise focus. Depth-from-Defocus technology offers lightning-fast calculation of spatial information making it possible to instantly and accurately capture your shots.

Helping to achieve the utmost sharpness when photographing handheld, an enhanced Dual I.S. 2 system combines the camera's sensor-shift image stabilization technology with lens-based image stabilization to compensate for a broad range of movement types and renders sharper, clearer imagery. Dual I.S. 2 requires the use of compatible Lumix lenses featuring O.I.S., and this updated stabilization system enables the GH5 Mark II to compensate for 6.5 stops of camera shake.

  • A large OLED Live View Finder has an impressive 3.68m-dot resolution and 0.76x magnification for eye-level composition.
  • A larger means for image composition and playback, the 3" 1.84m-dot rear TFT LCD monitor has a free-angle, tilt-and-swivel design to support viewing from a variety of angles. It is also a touchscreen, which permits intuitive menu navigation and settings control.
  • Dual UHS-II SD card slots provide settings such as Relay Recording to automatically switch cards when one is full; Backup Recording, which records the same data to both cards simultaneously; and Allocation Recording, which lets you save certain files to each card for easier organization.
  • Constructed from magnesium alloy with die-cast front and rear frames, the GH5 II features a durable design that also incorporates extensive sealing at each joint, dial, and button to render it both splash and dustproof as well as freezeproof to 14°F.

For instances where a very fast frame rate is needed in order to capture the best moment, 4K PHOTO lets you record 8MP stills at 30 or 60 fps, and 6K PHOTO provides 18MP stills at a 30 fps shooting rate. Both photo modes feature an unlimited recording time, and a pre-burst mode records images one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button, giving you up to 60 frames to choose from.

  • A mechanical focal plane shutter enables a fast maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, as well as a top flash sync speed of 1/250 sec. An electronic shutter function also avails a top shutter speed of 1/16,000 sec to better enable working in bright conditions and with wider aperture settings.
  • Depending on the lens in use, the included DMW-BLK22 battery provides approximately 410 shots per charge when using the rear monitor or electronic viewfinder.
  • A trio of new Photo Style modes include L. Classic Neo for a film-like effect with a soft and nostalgic feeling, L. Monochrome S for black and white portraits with a gentle look, Cinelike D2 which prioritizes dynamic range, and Cinelike V2 for prioritizing contrast.
  • Preinstalled V-Log L for multi-camera recording and editing makes it is easy to match the color tone with the footage recorded by other VariCam-series cameras.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does GH5 mk2 output cine4K60p with 4:2:2 10 bits h.264?

A: The GH5 MK ii can output DCI 4K 60p at 10 Bit 4:2:2 to an external recorder via HDMI. Internally it can record only record DCI 4K 60p at 10 Bit 4:2:0

Q: 2. In video mode can you record a time/date stamp on the video?

A: Yes. Time and date can be added

Q: 3. Is there a remote control that can control the zoom function?

A: There is no remote to control the zoom on the Panasonic Lumix GH5 II Mirrorless Camera with 25-50mm Lens and Accessories Kit.

Q: 4. When recording internally at 120p, is full pixel readout being used (and then down sampled to 1080)? If so, then there is no pixel binning and no line skipping in 120p, right? Thanks!

A: Under 150FPS, you can select the sensor area. Above 150FPS, the full sensor is default. We find no line skipping or pixel binning reported.

Q: 5. Does Panasonic Lumix GH5 have a clean hdmi out?

A: Yes. The Panasonic Lumix GH5 II has clean HDMI out.

Q: 6. How well does the camera stay in focus while zooming in and out?

A: The Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens provided with the Panasonic Lumix GH5 II Mirrorless Camera is not a parfocal lens, therefore it will not remain in focus as you zoom in and out. Parfocal zoom is a feature of Cinelenses. None of the Panasonic micro 4/3 zoom lenses provide this feature.

Q: 7. Does this camera over heat? I record for about 4 - 5 hours non stop.

A: I never heard a customer complain that the GH5ii overheated.

Q: 8. I switched the Eye Sensor to Off so the LCD screen wouldn't go black everytime my hand covers the sensor, but it's still going black. What's wrong?

A: set the sensitivity of the eye sensor to low then set to Monitor switch.

Q: 9. How many stops of dynamic range it has?

A: Panasonic reports that their redesigned Venus Engine processor offers an 25% increase in dynamic range over its predecessor, but did not give a measurement in stops. Because we can't confirm with any accuracy until the camera is released and comprehensively tested, we assume this increase will give it an approximate DR in V-log of 14~15 stops (assumption is based on 25% increase from GH5's DR testing).

Q: 10. I see that streaming with wifi is an option, but can I still tether to a USB-c cable like the gh5?

A: Yes you can tether the Panasonic Lumix GH5 II Mirrorless Camera with 12-60mm Lens with a USB-C cable.

Got this camera about a month ago and so far it's been great. My work is primarily focused on video and the image quality and usability of the camera are outstanding. Panasonic's 4k video file size is close to my previous canon t5i's 1080p files which in itself is a massive workflow upgrade. The camera also comes with many of the most beloved magic lantern features such as focus peaking, histograms, zebras, and others. No such thing as a perfect camera so I gave it 5 stars despite a few shortcomings. Really the only ones would be the battery life, definitely pick up a few extras for a full day of shooting. The LFV can become choppy in dimly lit situations is another. Moire can definitely arise when filming finely textured surfaces but so far hasn't been a huge issue. The g85 with kit lens is especially good value if you have no existing micro-four thirds equipment. Definitely happy with the quality of the camera - will update review if anything changes.

After using it for about 2 months, I can say that this is a great camera for the price. It is great for stills and for videos. Picture quality does not leave me wanting, and the flip out screen is a nice touch. The intelligent auto mode is great for when you don't want to think too hard and just wanna get shots. And the manual video mode is great for dialing in the look you want.
The continuous autofocus isn't perfect, but it is definitely convenient coming from a BMPCC4K with no autofocus at all. I also really like the Wi-Fi picture transfers and remote control (which has a live monitor).
My only complaints are that it doesn't do great in low light, and that the focus before snapping a still is sometimes slow.
All in all, I'm really happy I bought this camera. While it won't replace my main camera, it is a great and lightweight B camera.

I purchased this as an upgrade to my GH4. I loved my GH4 and used it for stills and video over the last 3 years. For my needs, the G85 is a much better tool. For photography the G85 is a much better camera. I liked the feel and ergonomics of the GH4, but prefer the G85. It's is a little smaller, is solid, and fits better in my hand. The pictures do seem to be sharper, and the IBIS allows me to take interior photos (for real estate) without a tripod that I would normally need. I didn't love the GH4 for photos, but I'm loving the G85. Compared to the GH4, the G85 is missing some key 'pro' video features: variable frame rate (slo motion to 96fps), a headphone jack, and the option for VLOG. I didn't use these features, so loosing these is not a drawback for me. The G85's IBIS is the big leap forward. I do real estate and community video, so I'm hopeful that I may be able to loose my tripod and slider for some shoots (we'll see). I still need to update the firmware on all lenses and the camera to do more tests, but I'm really liking the stabilized video out of camera. The GH4 is silent, but you can hear the IBIS on the G85. I've read that it doesn't affect sound recording, but I'll need to test it. Beyond incremental improvements, I really appreciate the ergonomics, menu system, and tons of features offered by Lumix cameras.

I had misgivings about buying and held off until a firmware update came out to fix the IS problem associated with shooting video. Downloaded and installed the update: now smooth as silk. I'm still learning the camera...it does a lot more than my Nikon D5000...but so far it's been fantastic. This is my first m43 camera, and I was a little worried about IQ and the smaller sensor resulting in too restricted an image size for landscapes, but so far am very happy with the IQ and haven't really felt cramped shooting landscapes. Low light performance was also a concern, but so far the images have been decent with less noise than I expected and the only real criticism is that the EVF becomes a little choppy in very low light. That said, I really like seeing the image in monochrome (or whatever I'm shooting) through the EVF; huge advantage. IS for stills is very good, and the video seems to follow suite. The kit lens is a lot better than I expected. Notably, the camera was a little larger than I expected, but this turned out to mean that the ergonomics that have been just about perfect. Still playing with 4K photos and depth from defocus, so I may update this later. Unless something goes drastically wrong somewhere down the road, at this price point, this one is a winner.
