Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it work with a Nikon 200-500. Why is it no on the list?

A: Hello the following Gimbal is ideal for lens 300mm, 500mm, etc. An additional quick release plate is needed in order to attach the lens or you can replace tripod collar Oben QR-53 Long Lens Quick Release Plate (5.3") https://bhpho.to/38xc5Gs Really Right Stuff Collar Foot Package for Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens https://bhpho.to/2Y7Z0l7

Q: 2. What is the true load capacity? overview shows 22lb and specs show 10lb.

A: The legs in the Neewer TP62 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Ball Head are rated for 22 pounds but the head is only rated to support 10 pounds.

Q: 3. Can it be used with a monopod?

A: I have actually used this combination at many professional sporting events. I use the tilt of the Sidekick, but lock the pan base down and turn the monopod to get the side to side motion I need. Doing it that way, makes it a little less unwieldy.

Q: 4. What is the ball size, I'm looking for something too swap end connections with?

A: The PanaVise ball of the PANAVISE ActionGRIP Ball-Head Suction Cup Mount for Action Cameras (Double-Knuckle) is 0.815" in diameter.

Q: 5. are any adapters needed for the nikon 200-500mm f/5.6?

A: You will need an Arca Swiss style mounting plate.

Q: 6. Will this system work with my KIRK BH-3 ball head....and my canon 500 f4 L lens..? also what plate do I need on the lens .. a P 40 or P 50 quick release plate?

A: I have used it on a Gitzo tripod with a Canon 600mm f4 and it was fine. I would not recommend carrying this combo on the shoulder as an assembly however.

Q: 7. My ball head is an Induro BHL3. Camera is D810 and lens Nikon 80-400mm Will the Wimberly Sidekick work without further adaptation?

A: As long as the tripod head has an Arca type quick release clamp, it should work. You simply lay the clamp over (as if shooting a vertical photo), and slide the sidekick into the clamp. The quick release plate on the lens will have to be long enough to slide the camera/lens combination forward or back to balance it correctly. When properly balanced, the camera/lens combination should be able to move easily when the knob is slightly tightened, and not fall front or backward.

Q: 8. should I level the tripod before balancing the gimbal? I have this question because I am going to use SK-100 with a ball head on top of the skyguider pro. Thus, there is always an angle and the sk-100-ballhead combo cannot be leveled all time. Not sure in this case will a gimble is still usable.

A: Yes, always level the tripod.

Q: 9. Will a battery grip get in the way of the ballhead/sidekick when the lens/camera is pointed up?

A: My battery grip hits the ball head...and at not too sharp an angle up. The solution in the instructions involves tilting the Sidekick from it's standard orientation= vertical, by loosening the main ballhead. Not the panning knob, but the main ballhead. And then simple tilt the Sidekick towards you if you want to shoot up more (higher elevation), or away from you if you want to shoot down. Lock the ballhead down once you have the elevation where you want it. Doing this you can shoot point up as much as you want...of course, you won't be able to shoot down now unless you readjust the ballhead to return the sidekick to vertical or even past vertical to shoot down at a steep angle. None of this changes the total range of motion between up and down. It changes where that range is expressed. Normal up and down with the sidekick vertical, mostly up with the sidekick leaning towards you, or mostly down with the sidekick leaning away from you. In all 3 of these orientations, the ball head quick release joint is sitting at the bottom of the cut out "U". You don't lift it off the bottom to tilt the sidekick...just to be clear. Loosen the ballhead and you could spin the sidekick upside down while the quick release of the ballhead stayed at the bottom of the "U".

Q: 10. Hi, will this sidekick work with the Sirui K-30X ball head?

A: It will! Per Wimberley, it will work well even on the smaller and lighter K-20x. I contacted them directly about using the Sidekick with the K-20x, a Canon 7Dii w/grip, and a Canon 100-400ii. Their response: Yes, the Sirui K-20x is an excellent choice for use our Sidekick and your listed equipment.
