Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this click in to a Zoom F3? My shotgun mic won't click in and I have seen others click.

A: Yes, the Neutrik 3-Pole XLR Female to 3-Pole XLR Male Extension Adapter will be compatible with the Zoom F3's locking Neutrik XLR connectors.

Q: 2. If you have two sources that don't natively balance the signal, do you need a 318 on both ends for it to be balanced?

A: The Switchcraft 318 doesn't work in reverse, so it can't be used at both ends of a signal.

Q: 3. I want to connect a laptop to an Anchor AN-130. A direct patch gives me hiss. Connecting two laptops to a switcher and then onto the amp can degrade the signal to uselessness. Will this help with this problem?

A: Yes, the 318 will provide a balanced mic level output so if you use the mic level input on the Anchor it should help eliminate any noise caused by impedance mismatch. You may need to use the ground lift switch on the 318 if there's a hum. It may also be helpful to turn down the treble control on the Anchor speaker slightly.

Q: 4. Will this allow me to connect my 3.5mm lav microphones to the XLR ports on either a Tascam DR-40x or Zoom H5 or H6 ?

A: The Switchcraft 318 is for connecting a line out 1/8'' source to an XLR mic input. For an 1/8'' microphone that is battery powered, it would be more ideal to use a Kopul mini to XLR adapter (B&H # KOAXMMF). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/985832-REG/kopul_a_xmmf_adapter_xlr_male.html If you are using an 1/8'' microphone that is not battery powered and instead uses mic plugin power, then you would use the Rode VXLR Plus adapter with the phantom power on your DR-40X or H5 or H6 turned on (B&H # ROVXLRP). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1358231-REG/rode_vxlr_mini_jack_to_xlr_adaptor.html

Q: 5. Does any other company make such an extender in black?

A: Unfortunately, we do not currently offer an option that is a 3-Pole XLR female to 3-Pole XLR male extension adapter in black.

Q: 6. Can this connect a microphone directly to a recorder? Such as, a Lewitt 140 air to a Sound Devices MixPre 3?

A: This could work for you, but that will probably put a lot of strain on the mic connectors. Using a longer cable, and mounting the mic on a stand, grip, or boom pole - will be a much better option.

Q: 7. Would this work for a Sennheiser mic k6/me66 to Sony PCM M10 and give balanced output to both L&R ?

A: Im afraid this will not work at all for what you want to do. As its the other way round. The 3.5mm is the input and the XLR is the mic level output. This would be used in a live situation for example where you may have a device that has a 3.5mm output which you plug in the Switchcraft 318 input. Now you can plug the XLR output of the Switchcraft 318 into a snake or stage box to go into the house mixer at mic level.

Q: 8. How long is this adapter from end to end?

A: Unfortunately the manufacturer has not provided details on the length of the Ambient Recording Balanced 3-Pin XLR Female to 3-Pin LEMO Adapter Cable.

Q: 9. If I plug a pair of stereo headphones into the female mono, will the signal be converted to mono and be distributed equally to both sides of the headphones? Thanks!

A: This cable is designed specifically to be used with a Hammond Leslie pedal. If attempting to use as an output cable, stereo headphones will not receive both sides of an output signal.

Q: 10. How long is the extension?

A: This product is 2.9 inches long.

Works exactly as it says. No hum. Great way of getting a signal into your desk safely and saving a channel in the process

I have been using one of these at my audio job for over a year and love it. Did a gig recently that didn't have one and picked to get my own. It small fits perfectly in my equipment bag without taking to much room like a DI. Won't go to any gig without it now.

You really get your money's worth for this product! It's fairly inexpensive but the best aspect is the size of it. This DI is small enough to fit in your pocket so it's perfect to have at a tech table or at a podium because it doesn't take up much space. The dial is a fantastic touch and I've never had a customer complain about the use of this product. Whether it's at a hotel or or in a small meeting room, this product beats out the rest.

Was concerned about the pot eventually getting dirty and mucking up the stream. However, so far, this thing is clean and built like a tank. Wonderful addition to the audio kit.

Few options for this size that has ground switch and gain control - this does great and it's solid.
