Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is this mic compatible with any dslr? I use canon(60d) and i want a mic in dimensions like ME-1.

A: The Nikon ME-1 Stereo Microphone is compatible with any DSLR that has a 3.5mm stereo mini jack. As the Canon 60D has a 3.5mm Stereo mini jack, the Nikon ME-1 would be compatible with the Canon 60D.

Q: 2. What kind of automatic mixer works with this mic?

A: You can use any of the Shure automatic mixers such as the SCM410 4-Channel Automatic Mixer (B&H# SHSCM410), SCM810 8-Channel Automatic Mixer (B&H# SHSCM810) or SCM820 8-Channel Digital IntelliMix Automatic Mixer (B&H# SHSCM820). All are compatible with the MX395 Microflex Boundary Microphone.

Q: 3. The mount is positioned sideways when attached to the camera hot shoe. How can the mic be rotated so that it faces forward?

A: Hold the microphone head and body firmly while gently twisting the shoe portion into position.

Q: 4. I have one 8020, if I want to get a pair, is it better to buy a pair or buy another one, i guess my question is, does the single version makes any difference with the pair version?

A: In terms of matching capsules, it is more ideal to purchase the Sennheiser MKH 8020 Compact Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone as a set, however purchasing two individual microphones will still provide great results when used as a pair.

Q: 5. Will this work for the DPA 4018c? Seems like it would due to the size of comparable mics.

A: Yes, the Rycote 041110 InVision INV-6 SOFT Shockmount is compatible for use with the DPA Microphones 4018C Compact Supercardioid Microphone,

Q: 6. Will this mic survive water being splashed on it?

A: Shure does not rate the MX395 Microflex Low-Profile Boundary Microphone models for water resistance. This will probably withstand one or two accidents or water spills, but I would not recommend installing it in an environment where that will happen frequently. If the microphone does get wet, it would be best to wipe it dry as soon as possible. Repeated exposure to spills or splashes will damage the microphone. For conference rooms where water spills are more likely, using a hanging mic like this suspended over the table could be less likely to suffer damage from accidents: https://bhpho.to/2xVQp7s

Q: 7. The question isn't why are 2 mics more expensive than 1, it is why is there a $100 premium over buying 2 separately. Is it because they are 'matched'?

A: The difference in cost between purchasing two Rode NT55 Compact Condenser Microphones with Interchangeable Capsules as opposed to the Matched Pair item can indeed be credited to the fact that the pair is matched, making them more ideal for recording as a stereo pair.

Q: 8. How do I connect a single or pair of these mics to a Sony A7VR or Sony equivalent camera?

A: The Sennheiser MKH 8020 Compact Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone require an XLR to XLR cable and 48V phantom power to function. The Sony a7R V Mirrorless Camera has a 3.5mm mic input as well as the Multi Interface Shoe. In order to connect and power either one or two of the MKH 8020 mics to the camera you will need to use a separate active XLR adapter/mixer or an external recorder. One of the best options is the Sony XLR-K3M Dual-Channel Digital XLR Audio Adapter Kit with Shotgun Microphone which connects to the camera using a cable-free digital connection through the Multi-Interface Shoe. Another option is the TASCAM CA-XLR2d-AN XLR Microphone Adapter Kit for Cameras (B&H # TACAXLR2DAN) which will connect through the camera's 3.5mm mic input. The Comica Audio CVM-AX3 Dual-Channel Audio Mixer for DSLRs (B&H # COCVMAX3) is a budget-friendly alternative that will also connect through the camera's 3.5mm mic input. The three adapters mentioned all have two channels with phantom power which will allow you to connect both mics at the same time.

Q: 9. Why is the matched pairs expensive than the single Nt55?

A: The matched pair comes with 2 microphones. The single NT55 comes with 1 microphone.

Q: 10. Will this suspension fit with Sennheiser 8040, 30 and 40?

A: It might but it comes with all the Schoeps mic's. You cannot buy this without the mic's.

This is a great microphone, it really is built like a tank. It improved the quality of my films by about x10, it really is that good. Everything is tucked up in one small package. The Cat cover works really nicely, just be sure none of the cat hair gets into your shot. I ruined and entire shot because of the cat. But thats just operator error. I probably dropped it two times in one day, without any problems or damage to the mic, I was quite surprised and relieved. It's a great step up from the Mono shotgun Video mic, but its for a diffrent purpose. But it is built much tougher, and much heavier. I use this with my Canon Gl-2 and its a great combination.

I use this microphone with my Canon 5D mk2 DSLR camera for video. Wow, what an improvement over the built in mic. With the built-in mic, I used to hear all the camera noise, every time I touched the camera the mic would super magnify any noise I made. Not any more. The Rodes microphone is suspended in it's holder by rubberbands so that it is very isolated from the camera. I use the Rode mic for video recording of School music performances in auditoriums and it is very nice. Very high audo quality. As has been noted in other reviews: Don't forget to turn the mic on! Turn off Image Stabilized lenses (you can hear the gyros) not as loud as with built in mic, but the Rodes still picks up a little noise if you leave gyro on. On the 5D mk2, consider the on-board mic for emergency use only. I suspect any add-on mic would be an improvement, especially in reducing unwanted camera function noise. This one also records very good audio.

Nice piece of gear and really reduces camera and lens noise. There is no problem using the viewfinder with this mic attached to the hotshoe. Allthough one reviewer noted that mounting the mic on the hotshoe prevented or hindered viewfinder use, there is no problem.

For recording a concert, it's perfect. For a train going by, it's perfect. But for a river rolling bye, it is no better than the on-camera mic because directional sensitivity means little in that case. Great at a party too.

I bought this mic for use on a Canon XHA1 video for airshow shooting. Using the dead cat, and careful attention to the audio meter, it is perfect. It is not a shot-gun mic, but you will get rich, clear overall audio of aircraft. The three switches on the mic: on/off, Level cut and high pass filter are useful. The on/off switch has a green or red LED that lets you know if your battery is good. You have good ambient sounds at the source and good pickup of aircraft in the distance without peaking from engine blasts.

This is an awesome product. Blows away the on board Mic and the stereo sound is amazing. Its slightly large but built well and looks like It'll last forever.

I use this on my Nikon D7000 and it works great directly into the camera. I also use it by plugging it directly into my Zoom H1 line in input. Either way is great. Outside, throw on the dead kitten that comes with it and your ready to go. I've only had it a couple of weeks now and so far can't find anything wrong with it.

I got this mic for my Sony Hdr-Fx1. It is way better than the built in one. Also has a great -10 db filter that is very useful in a noisy ambiance. I definitely recommend this product; I guess is the best stereo microphone that you can get for this money

This is my second Rode mic; the first being the Videomic (monaural). I think microphones are a little like restaurants-- when I find one I like, I generally stick with the brand. This Stereo Videomic is amazing, and it really does put on-board video microphones to shame, both in motor noise isolation, and in overall sound quality. I am using it on my Sony FX-1, and I couldn't be happier with the results. A real plus is that the price is very reasonable.
