Ideal for use in modern recording and broadcast studios, the DIGI-TOOL F612 from Lake People is a distribution amplifier and digital splitter designed to deliver up to four expanded AES/EBU XLR outputs for one input at sample rates as high as 24-bit / 192 kHz. The F612 features two separate modules, one with a single XLR AES/EBU input and four XLR outputs, and another with one BNC wordclock or AES-iD sync input and eight BNC outputs.

The unit features high output voltages for maintaining signal strength over very long distances, and a high input sensitivity helps to regenerate weak input signals. The F612 also sports failsafe operation thanks to its switchable multimode power supply, which automatically detects power input and switches to the appropriate voltage between 90 and 260 VAC.

One of the most important features of any professional distribution amplifier is the signal strength of the output, as a strong signal is vital for high-quality broadcasts and complex digital signal routings. Oftentimes, a studio may need to feed digital signals over very long distances, resulting in significant loss.

To address this issue, the F611 sports AGC amplifiers to produce 4 Vpp output signals, more than enough to cover extremely long cable runs while maintaining optimal signal integrity. All I/O is balanced and both the inputs and outputs feature transformers for ensuring ideal signal strength, even allowing the unit to recover (regenerate) lost signal strength when receiving weak input signals.

The F612 is a rack-mountable distribution splitter that can be a vital asset for any broadcast studio or recording facility. With two separate modules, the F612 can perform two important functions at the same time, distributing digital audio signals over long distances, and feeding S/PDIF sync data via wordclock or AES-iD to multiple destinations. These functions are aided by the following:

  • Jumpers for switching the output impedance from 75 to 50 ohms to drive improper wordclock inputs
  • Jumpers to switch to AES-iD operation
  • Jumpers that switch to Superclock 256 Fs
  • Unbalanced BNC sockets with high input sensitivity and output voltages
  • Clear LEDs for indicating if a module is active or no input signal is detected

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How thick is the padding? Can this be used for an airport check in?

A: Based on years of airline travel with camera and lighting equipment, we cannot recommend any bag for airline checked baggage. Please consider hard cases.

Q: 2. Is the impedance constant on the input side as you add more headphones/speakers to the outputs, or does the input need to be increased as more peripherals are added?

A: I bought two of these boxes to add additional two-channel outputs for connecting three digital recorders simultaneously from my mixer's main mix outputs. After connecting everything, I did not add additional input gain to the splitter boxes, but I did note that the three digital recorders required slightly higher recording levels than they did in their standalone configuration. Hope this helps!

Q: 3. Is this color still available? Is not discontinued anymore?

A: This product is currently available for sale on our website.

Q: 4. what advantage does this have over a Y cable?

A: The construction of the box is more solid and wiring on the box is internal so it's protected from breakage and more durable than a basic Y-cable. Additionally, the JIB/Y also has phantom block circuitry that prevents phantom power from coming back into the splitter from the equipment the box is connected to. Phantom power can damage certain microphones so the JIB/Y offers protection from damage that can be caused by phantom power.

Q: 5. Can I fit an OConnor 1030DS/30L tripod package in here?

A: Yes, the tripod will fit but you will need to take off the Pan Handle from the head.

Q: 6. I need to split my soundcard's main output (2 balanced 1/4'' - L & R) to 4 speakers. Can I use a 'Y' cable to hook a stereo 1/4'' into the input and use the JIBS 4 outputs to each speaker? I'll lose the balanced connection with the Y cable, though.

A: Dear all,We are interesting this products for 8 pcs. Please advise the stock status. Is this have stock available?BR,Shake

Q: 7. Would this fit a Flowtech100 and Oconnor 1030B head?

A: The interior of this bag is exactly the same as the tripod and head 34.6". Therefore I feel it is too small. Therefore, I think a 39" bag is better for in an out. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/655985-REG/Manfrotto_MBAG100PN_MBAG100PN_Padded_Tripod_Bag.html

Q: 8. Can this comfortably fit a Sachtler 100mm Flowtech Tripod with a Sachtler V18P tripod head attached to it? I have ordered and tried the PortaBrace TLQB-35, (the 35" bag) and I can not close the bag because of the tripod head.

A: Yes this bag should fit your tripod.

Q: 9. If I plug a phantom power mic into the input and the mic is receiving phantom power from a pre-amp on the other side of the unit through output 1, will the signal of output 2 be the same level as output one? In other words, both outputs would be outputting an identical line level as the mic is already getting its power from output one? Thank you.

A: It may be marginally quieter on each than it would be w/o the splitter, but a phantom powered pre-amp is still only outputting mic level, not line level. Works for me w/ 300' on the out #2 to a production truck.

Q: 10. How many of B&H # MASSLIDER could I fit in here? Collapsed, the stand is 25.5" and 16" in diameter at its widest point.

A: The bag should hold 2-3 stands.
