This 42" x 98' roll of Multigrade FB Classic Gloss Variable Contrast Paper from Ilford is a baryta-coated fiber base paper with a glossy finish designed for traditional black & white photo printing. This paper features a double weight of 255 gsm and a white base tint providing neutral colors. Additionally, it is variable contrast paper with seven full grades of contrast available. These grades are accessible with the use of speed-matched filters.

Multigrade FB Classic is designed for use with all enlargers and is equally suitable for printing from conventional negatives and from XP2 Super negatives. Safelights are recommended to have dark orange, dark brown, or red filters and a 15 W bulb.

I use this variable contrast paper for negatives of mine that may not be perfect exposure. I also use it for tinting or coloring with squab, pencil, oil stick, transparent oils. It is highly resistant to reworking the surface. 5

Would love to order this again, but each time I do someone in the shipping dept doesn’t know how to put a box around this box. The last time they shipped me one without a box around it. Six feet totally unusable! B/H policy? “We’ll take $50 off your order.” 5

As long as you can manage to set aside the idea of a set of test strips that cost you seven dollars in a single go (the cost of one full sheet), it's a fun challenge to print this big. You'll definitely want an enlarger easel big enough for the task (I would not want to try it without one). But, for the right image and the right customer, it's worth the investment of time and money. The paper itself presented no problems. The matte finish was the right choice for the work in this case, at least. I'm sorry that the envelope is now empty. 5
