Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what's the difference between semi-matt and pearl finishes?

A: Semi Matt is closer to a matt finish than it is to glossy (my observation/opinion). I have never seen pearl in a fiber base paper, only in RC, and that has a more radiant or iridescent look.

Q: 2. Is this paper good for hand coloring photos?

A: It is warm in color. It will accept hand color inks well yes.

Q: 3. Is anyone else getting a warm/pinkish hue to the final print with this paper? Trying to find out if it was my chemical process or the actual paper.

A: I've been using this paper exclusively now for two years and haven't had that problem. The only problem I've had is that it's prone to staining (bownish) around the edges of 8 x 10's or larger if I don't wash long enough

Q: 4. I have 3/4 of an 8x10 box left that I purchased 5 years ago an d has been stored at room temp. Do you think it's still good? I

A: Ilford Multigrade Art 300 Paper (8 x 10", 50 Sheets) might still be okay. But it can loose sensitively and can fog over time. The best is to try it and see the results.

Q: 5. If processed ta archival standards, is this paper as archival as Ilford's traditional baryta fiber based papers?

A: Yes this paper would be archival when processed and stored properly.

Q: 6. What about the paper expiry date?

A: Unfortunately, we do not have an expiration date for the FUJIFILM Fujicolor Crystal Archive Type II Paper (8 x 10", Matte, 100 Sheets). B&H buys and sells darkroom paper in bulk. In general, we regularly maintain fresh darkroom paper. All of our paper is at least 6 months from expiration (typically much longer). Anytime darkroom paper is less than 6 months from expiration, we sell it in a separate section and label it as "short-dated paper," and also price it with a slight discount (again, due to the volumes we sell, this rarely occurs). Unfortunately, we do not have access to our inventory to hand inspect the expiration date of any of our darkroom paper prior to purchase.

Q: 7. What developer for slightly warm print with no toning?

A: you can use this BH #ILWTD1L

Q: 8. Will awesome prints made with Ilford Art 300 paper still look awesome under frame glass?

A: Yes, if you get higher end glass with anti reflective coating.

Q: 9. what safelight does this paper require?

A: According to the data sheet included with the Foma FOMABROM FB Grade 3 B&W Paper, under the "Safelighting" section, it states color of safety illumination is yellow, yellow-green, amber or orange colors are recommended. Regarding its high sensitivity the processed material has to be exposed to such illumination only for the time necessary for its processing. Length of exposure and a distance of the processed material from the illumination source should be tested. If you are looking for an amber safelight, the Delta 1 Brightlab OC-Amber Jumbo Safelight (25 Watt), B&H # DESLJOC, would be recommended for your usage needs.

Q: 10. is this RA-4 negative paper?

A: FUJIFILM Fujicolor Crystal Archive Type II Paper (8 x 10", Matte, 100 Sheets) is for printing color negatives. The paper is designed to be processed with the Fujifilm Frontier 570 Minilab Machine, though it will also work with the Fujifilm Frontier 330, 340, 350, 355, 370, 375, 390, and 570 machines.

I purchased this photo paper for a special topics class where we make photograms. I wanted something with a finish that would make contrast look like thick velvet. After gram-ing, as my professor called it, a bunch of flowers, branches, and leaves, I developed (which takes a minute or two with fiber paper, so be patient) and washed the images and set them out to dry. After a couple of days I went back and the colors were remarkable. The blacks were rich and the whites were crisp. THIS IS FIBER PAPER SO IT IS GOING TO CURL. I simply left my images in a book to press them for a couple days and they were flat again, heat presses always work too, but be carful not to over process your work! Overall great product with a beautiful finish, highly recommend for the consumer who is looking for a hearty paper that feels good on your fingertips.

I am new to darkroom printing so I can not compare this paper to much else, but I would consider it to be the standard that all other paper should be compared to. It has excellent detail in the final print and even dries relatively flat. I highly recommend it

I use Ilford Fiber paper a lot for my classes especially working with advanced darkroom techniques. It's exceptional if you know how to use it and the prints are incredible quality. It honestly comes down to your experience. If you know how to use it, handle it, and dry it properly, you're set. 35mm, 120, Medium & Large format friendly.
