Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the paper selenium tone evenly with a cool paper and warm emulsion?

A: The Ilford Multigrade Art 300 Paper is a fiber base paper and can be toned.

Q: 2. This is fiber based and not resin coated, right?

A: Correct. It is a heavier than normal fiber paper that tends to move to the warmer side, responds well to different developing agents, tones well and dries relatively flat.Try a few sheets. You may like it. Great for portraits.

Q: 3. Does this paper require all the extra filters?

A: Since it is a variable contrast paper, the best results would be achieved using variable contrast filters such as these: https://bhpho.to/3hToJ8K

Q: 4. Can this paper be toned?

A: Yes, you can use toner chemicals on fiber-based papers to produce a richer range of tones.

Q: 5. Is this paper difficult to flatten after development? Can it be used with Ilford filters and developer?

A: Once dried, pressing them between 2 heavy books should take care of the curl for the most part.

Q: 6. Does this work in normal paper developers?

A: Yes, this paper is compatible with normal D-76 black and white paper developers.

Q: 7. I exposed this paper under the enlarger, and then put it to the tray of developer but it comes nothing, why? Should I take a different process?

A: I find when enlarging images on this paper that I have longer exposure times and developing times than any other papers. Try longer for both. Best of luck!

Q: 8. Is anyone else getting a warm/pinkish hue to the final print with this paper? Trying to find out if it was my chemical process or the actual paper.

A: I've been using this paper exclusively now for two years and haven't had that problem. The only problem I've had is that it's prone to staining (bownish) around the edges of 8 x 10's or larger if I don't wash long enough

Q: 9. What developer for slightly warm print with no toning?

A: you can use this BH #ILWTD1L

Q: 10. Will awesome prints made with Ilford Art 300 paper still look awesome under frame glass?

A: Yes, if you get higher end glass with anti reflective coating.

This variable contrast paper simplifies the enlarging process. When paired with variable contrast filters 00-3 and 3 1/2 -5 there is no need to adjust exposure times making it quicker to find the perfect contrast. Also a very fine grain allows for larger images without sacrificing image quality. The matte suface does require about two seconds for dry down, however this is typical for matte paper. Just something to keep in mind before you use/waste a bunch of paper. By far my favorite paper i have used
