A: I use the Canon 60D and the battery compartment is on the bottom (which I believe is the same for the 5D?) The bottom of the camera mounts to the top of the tascam so you do have to take it apart every time you you want to change the battery. And this does use batteries up pretty fast. I have mine on a tri-pod and ended up going with using a USB power source so I didn't have to fuss w/ changing batteries so much. Hope that helps :D
