Not only do shotgun microphones sound perfect for video, dialogue, and capturing specific sounds, they do it while rejecting most other noises. This is thanks to the long shape of the microphone that works to cancel out sound from the sides. This is especially helpful when shooting video outdoors where ambient noise can really try to intrude on your recording. The physical design, combined with the onboard high-pass filters for eliminating rumble and included windscreens ensure clean, transparent audio for truly professional videos.
The EM-95MS features a number of useful controls and indicators to let you get the most out of your shotgun microphone. Whether recording indoors or outdoors, this shotgun mic can tackle numerous shooting and recording scenarios with ease.
- Fully variable gain allows for precise level control
- 75 / 150 Hz high-pass filter switch to eliminate low-frequency rumble
- -10 dB pad for overdrive protection and clean audio to work with in post
- Auto on/off automatically turns the mic on and off with your device
This microphone not only comes with an integrated cold shoe shockmount, allowing you to attach your shotgun directly to a camera with minimal vibrations or handling noise, but it can also be mounted onto 3/8" tripod screws. Separate foam and furry windscreens are also provided for protecting your mic from wind during indoor and outdoor shooting respectively, and a convenient included carry case allows you to easily transport your mic and all of it's accessories in one container.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. When I have the microphone plugged into my H4n, I have to turn the audio in the H4n almost all the way up, which sounds terrible because of the white noise. I have to do the same thing when I have it plugged into my DSLR. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? People have been saying this mic sounds great, but I'm not getting that. It sounds like a $60 mic for me.
A: Hi Cody. Are you using 48v phantom power from your Zoom or are you using the built in battery of the mic? I would suggest NOT using the -10db pad on the mic to ensure you are sending out the best signal from the mic to your device. If you still cannot get a decent level please send us an enquiry at a href= http://rode.com/contact target= _blank rode.com/contact/a and we can help further.
Q: 2. Is this pole aluminum or carbon fiber?
A: K-Tek - KE-89CC Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole with Internal XLR Cable
Q: 3. Is this mic compatible with DSLR cameras? I have a Canon 5D mark III and am looking for on on-camera shotgun mic.
A: The NTG1 requires power in order to operate that is supplied by the device the mic is connected to. unfortunately this is not able to be supplied by the cameras mini jack output. For the 5D mkIII and similar cameras you will need an additional adapter that is able to provide the power to the mic such as a Beachtek DXA-SLR ULTRA, which will allow the connection of 2 mics, level control, metering and limiters to protect from overload. Alternatively a battery powered mic will also work directly connected. The NTG-2 would be an example.
Q: 4. Considering this microphone has an internal battery, it doesn't seem like it would need +48v phantom power. Therefore, would it work with the Sony XLR-K2M XLR Adapter Kit?
A: The NTG4 is able to be powered via internal battery or externally via phantom power from the source. This mic can be used with the Sony XLR-K2M in either manner.
Q: 5. Is this compatible with a canon 70 D camera? And how big is it?
A: Yes, it is compatible with the 70D. It is 2" in diameter and 7.3" long.
Q: 6. I have a Rode Videopro shotgun mic. Besides the XLR inputs, How does this compare to that microphone?
A: The reach and rejection of the NTG 4+, along with a richer, fuller audio reproduction are just a few advantages. The NTG4+is also mor robustly built and includes an Internal Rechargeable Lithium Battery.
Q: 7. Will this microphone work via AA battery and +48 if the internal battery has already died?
A: The NTG4+ does not operate on AA battery power. It features an internal rechargeable battery for power or can utilize phantom power.
Q: 8. I am looking to use this with a Saramonic SmartRig with a TRRS to TRS adapter to avoid buying the Sony XLR-K2M. Will it work?
A: The RODE NTG4+ Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with the Saramonic SmartRig+ 2-Channel XLR Microphone Audio Mixer with the 3.5mm TRRS connector. It may also be compatible for connection to the 3.5mm TRS mic input on your DSLR or mirrorless camera. If you are only going to use the NTG4+ mic with your camera, you can connect the mic directly to the camera's 3.5mm mic input. Power the mic with its internal battery and use a cable with XLR female and 3.5mm TRS male connectors like the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable - 1.5' (B&H # KOXRSM015B), which is a good length for mounting on the camera, or use a longer length if you want to use the mic off-camera, on a boompole or stand.
Q: 9. Is this Phantom Powered?
A: The Rode NTG4 will require phantom power in order to operate.
Q: 10. 1) Can i connect NTG4+ to my rodelink filmmaker wireless transmitter?2) When connected directly to a sony a7r3 camera, will it sound good? or Preamp/external recorder is a must?
A: The 4+ supplies its own power, so if the rodelink receiver is plugged into the camera, plugging the mic directly into the camera will make absolutely no difference. The only benefit of using the transmitter would be to get the mic closer to the audio source. But that doesn't seem to apply here.
