Musicians, producers, and sound designers looking for a powerful hybrid synthesizer should check out the Waldorf Quantum MKII, the company's flagship polyphonic analog/digital hybrid synthesizer, which combines the raw power of classic digital and analog synthesizers with futuristic sounds that are only possible with today’s intensely programmable soft-synths, in a sleek and accessible user interface with a multitouch display, which features an on-screen spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope for deep, visualized editing. The MKII offers new features including a new FATAR TP/8SK keyboard with 61 semiweighted keys, polyphonic aftertouch, and a new Kernel synthesis algorithm with a wide range of possibilities from classic 6-operator FM to innovative audio rate wavetable modulation. The sample storage memory has also been expanded to 59GB.

The instrument offers 8 voices with analog filter, up to 16 voices with digital filters. Each voice utilizes three digital oscillators and two analog filters. For even more versatility, the voices can be split or layered multitimbrally between two parts, while the two sets of stereo outputs (main and aux) were designed specifically for use in multitimbral mode. Additionally, there are five master effect slots for each timbre, providing the full breadth of sound design options. Each oscillator is capable of five synthesis algorithms including Wavetable, Waveform, Particle, and Resonator, and Kernel. What's more, the instrument can generate custom wavetables using audio that can either be routed into the Quantum’s audio input or loaded from the internal memory or removable sample memory.

The Quantum MKII has a massive modulation section with six LFOs, six multistage envelopes that are loopable, an onscreen step sequencer, an arpeggiator, and a chord play mode with hold and latch. Additional features include an SD-card slot for importing and exporting samples and sounds, and performing software updates. Also onboard is a USB-B computer connector and a USB-A controller connector for further expansion and control. The Quantum has an integrated power supply unit and includes a standard IEC power cord.

Q: 7. Is there any information who helped JOBY to develop the mic since they are not famous for making sound gear previously?

A: There is no current information on the participants in the development process for the JOBY Wavo PRO Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 8. MY JK Audio is no longer connecting with Broadcast System. I can no longer connect my callers through my Arrakis System. The LED is stuck on send and no LED on caller! How do I get the system working again?

A: Please phone a B&H pro audio representitive to try and trouble shoot your problem.

Q: 9. I was able recently to compare the sound of my Broadcast Host with a 20+ year-old Telos One hybrid and was astounded by how much less noise the ancient Telos had compared to my JK Audio unit. Am I doing something wrong with my BH? Are there settings I don't know about that adjust the noise suppression or whatever? This unit is more advanced so I'm sure it's operator error.

A: Telos is a professional broadcast supplier of telephone hybrids. The Telos One units were broadcast, very high quality devices, they adjusted the quality of analog audio, based on the POTS ("Plain Old Telephone Service") telephone line being used for that exact call. Currently, the telephone lines are often digital lines or sometimes a combination of analog and digital and often are carried over internet service providers. Using Audio Over Internet Provider (AOIP). There are several companies/ products which address these phone line differences. These include the JK Innkeeper, Comrex and Telos products (the latter 2 being Broadcast level).

Q: 10. Does this charge through a USB connector? How long does it take to charge? Thanks!

A: The Sony TX660 Digital Voice Recorder BH #SOICDTX660 will charge its internal rechargeable battery via a USB connection to a computer or an AC USB charger/power supply. This recorder should reach a full charge within 4 hours. Per SONY: • You can charge the battery by connecting a USB AC adaptor to a household power outlet. Being able to use the unit while it is charging is useful when recording for a long time. When using a USB AC adaptor, use one that can supply an output current of 500 mA or more. Charging from other devices is not guaranteed. • Do not use a USB adaptor that exceeds the maximum output of 13 W (5 V, 2.6 A)
