Designed for flexible deployment, the TS-855eU 8-Bay NAS Enclosure from QNAP features a 2 RU design with a short 11.7" depth, making it ideal for small racks, wall-mounted AV racks, and network cabinets where the extra space may be used for cable management and ventilation. Despite its size, you can fit up to eight 2.5" / 3.5" SATA III drives into the available bays alongside two M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSDs for caching. The drives may be configured for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10,50, and 60 with triple mirror and triple parity functionality to balance between performance and data redundancy.

Powered by a 2.8 GHz Intel Atom C5125 8-Core processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory and the QuTS hero h5.0.1 operating system, the TS-855eU is ready to take on a variety of workloads. It integrates with your network through two 2.5G Ethernet ports, allowing it to operate as a file server, backup and restoration system, virtual application host, and more. Compatible peripherals and expansions may be connected to the four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports to transfer data at up to 5 Gb/s. A 250W power supply is included.

Install up to two M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 cache drives to boost the performance of your NAS. Additionally, two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots support up to 64GB of ECC memory. Expansions such as fiber optic network adapters may be installed into the two PCIe 3.0 x4 slots.

This NAS can reach read and write speeds of up to 591 MB/s and 586 MB/s, respectively when equipped with eight 1TB SATA SSDs in RAID 5 configuration through the two 2.5G Ethernet ports.

Configure SSD caching with M.2 SSDs and obtain optimal I/O and reduced latency without occupying any 3.5-inch drive bays.

Qtier technology empowers the TS-855eU with auto tiering to continuously optimize storage efficiency across all installed storage devices.

The separately purchased Coral M.2 Accelerator with Edge TPU provides an affordable solution to leverage AI acceleration for faster image recognition in your NAS applications.

Quickly back up and sync your connected devices with the Qsync application. This NAS also supports Time Machine for Mac. Hybrid Backup Sync allows NAS-to-NAS backups in addition to cloud-based transfers and syncing.

Centralize your virtualization storage, and host multiple virtual machines and containerized apps.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have an older TS 569L can the drives that have data on them be swapped into this unit w/o any additional configuration?

A: NAS drives should not be moved from one unit to another unit until the data has been backed up and relocated to another device. RAID configurations and hardware can vary and differences can corrupt or destroy data on drives. This would be true of the QNAP TS-932PX-4G 9-Bay NAS Enclosure BH #QNTS932PX4G and most other NAS on the market.

Q: 2. Can I connect this to 4x editing stations simultaneously?

A: The QNAP TS-h973AX has a 10GbE and 2x2.5GbE ports that you can use to connect the NAS to your network. The users would access the NAS from the network.

Q: 3. Can one fill the 3.5" bays with drives and then add the 2.5" drives later? Or is it better to fill the whole unit from day 1?

A: The QNAP TS-h973AX 9-Bay NAS Enclosure (BH #QNTSH973AX32) can work with just the 3.5'' drives but is recommended to have all drives filled for a easier setup process.

Q: 4. Are the ssd bays intended for storage or for cache?

A: The 2.5" drive bays on the QNAP TS-932PX-4G 9-Bay NAS Enclosure can be configured for storage or cache.

Q: 5. Can I use this enclosure by connecting My iMac directly through the USB C port?

A: Yes. You can connect QNAP TS-h973AX 9-Bay NAS Enclosure to your iMac using an usb-c to ethernet adapter

Q: 6. Can this be connected through USB directly to a computer?

A: It would not be possible to connect this to your computer via USB. To connect to a computer directly, you'd have to connect via ethernet.

Q: 7. How few of the 9 drive bays can remain unoccupied while the device remains functional?

A: You can technically use only a single bay in order for this to work. If you are setting the unit up in a RIAD, then depending on the RAID configuration you might need 2 drives, 3 drives or more.

Q: 8. What are the best 3.5 SATA Drives for this unit?

A: The drives you choose for the QNAP TS-h973AX 9-Bay NAS Enclosure would depend on the amount of storage you require, but NAS drives such as the Seagate IronWolf and the WD Red Pro are popular choices.

Q: 9. Could you please confirm that this doesn't support Raid 5?

A: The QNAP TS-216G 2-Bay NAS Enclosure does not support RAID 5 and is only capable of RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD. Only enclosures with three or more bays (and a minimum of three drives installed) can support RAID 5.

Q: 10. I'm considering purchase of this QNAP TS-932PX-4G. My current computer is an older iMac that only has Thunderlboldt 2 and USB 3.0, and Gigabit Ethernet. I'm looking for a storage solution that will work with that Mac but also be a smart investment for use with a new Mac when I upgrade soon. Is it possible to connect this NAS to my current iMac, with some type of adapter, via Thunderboldt 2. 0 or USB 3, since that would conceivably give me faster transfer rates than using the Gigabit ethernet port? I plan to use it for photo and video editing and data storage.

A: The QNAP TS-932PX-4G 9-Bay NAS Enclosure can only connect to a computer via ethernet, either directly to the computer's ethernet port or to a network router/switch via ethernet.
