Focal Press Secrets Of Screen Acting

When it was first published in 1993, Secrets of Screen Acting broke new ground in explaining how acting for the camera is different from acting on stage. This third edition of Secrets of Screen Acting from Focal Press covers how reaction time is altered, physical timing and placement are reconceived, and the proportions of the digital frame itself become the measure of all things, so the director must conceptualize each image in terms of this new rectangle and actors must fit into the frame. Based on a revolutionary non-Method approach to acting, this book shows what actually works: how an actor, an announcer—anyone working in front of the cameras—gives excellent performances on screen.
Instead of starting with what is real and trying to wrestle that onto the screen, Patrick Tucker explains how to work with the realities of a shoot and work from there towards the real. His step-by-step guide to the elements of effective screen acting is an extension and explanation of a lifetime of work in the field, containing over 50 acting exercises and the tried-and-tested Screen Acting Checklist. As well as being completely updated to cover new techniques, film references, and insights, this third edition now includes a set of Film Clip Time Codes for each film. These not only itemise the films discussed in each chapter, but also pinpoint the precise moments where each example can be found so that students, teachers, and professional actors can refer to them quickly and easily.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is this different from Epson Signature Worthy Hot Press Natural paper? It appears to have the same spec. Please confirm. Thanks.
A: It is the exact same paper, just different packaging.
Q: 2. Is it only for Canon and Nikon lenses?
A: At this time, the FoCal Large Hard Target is only optimized for select Nikon and Canon cameras/lenses.
Q: 3. Is this strictly 4x5, or could it handle the 3.25x4.25 format? (And if not, any recommendations for what the best solution is for that size?)
A: This will only work with 4x5 film.
Q: 4. how is this on p700?
A: Unfortunately it is not compatible with the P700 since it is too wide. This Moab Entrada Rag Bright 190 would be compatible and similar in quality: https://bhpho.to/3r7pw8U
Q: 5. Which mic base works with the Lenny stand?
A: Any 5/8 (1.6 cm) threaded microphone stand will be compatible.
Q: 6. If I understand, I will have to run the program with each of my lens 9 Nikkor and Tamron G2. Is the camera record and keep in memory the correction result per lens ?
A: Yes. Each lens may have a different optimal AF Fine-tune set point. The last step in the FoCal is to enter the optimal AF-Fine tune number for that particular test. The (Nikon) camera will remember the setting for each lens tested and will automatically load that number when you put the lens on the camera. You can always change it manually, in the camera, for the lens that is on the camera. Test Zoom lenses at different focal lengths. You may have to compromise on the "best" setting since Nikon cameras only store one correction number for each lens.
Q: 7. can you use this paper 8.5x11 with the Epson XP-960 and do you load it with printable side up in the large cassette tray?
A: I seriously doubt that you can feed this paper through a cassette. I have an Epson P800, into which this paper must be feed by hand using the front fine art loader. It will not run through the top loading feeder on the P800. This paper is not listed in the Manual for this machine. You may able to tell if the machine can handle it by seeing if you can select it in the Printer Dialog Box under Printer Settings--Media Type--Fine Art Paper--Hot Press Natural. If there is no setting for this paper, then you are probably out of luck. Last resort, call Epson. I'd be sure your machine can handle it, before chewing up this expensive product and ruining your machine.
Q: 8. How does this book compare to The Fujifilm X-T2: 120 X-Pert Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Camera" ?
A: The books are similar but this one is more specific to the controls, features, and settings found on the XT2 which are not available on all X series cameras.
Q: 9. Is this double sided paper?
A: No
Q: 10. How close is this to Moab Entrada Natural? It seems like they would be quite close, both being natural and I assume with no OBAs
A: The Epson Hot Press Natural Smooth Matte has a very similar surface and thickness as the Moab Entrada Rag Natural 190. Both papers are OBA free.
