Characterized by its ultrawide field of view, the black Canon RF-mount NiSi 9mm f/2.8 Sunstar ASPH Lens is also distinguished by its distinct rendering of point light sources. Well-suited for landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, and interior applications, this ultrawide-angle prime strays from the norm with a 10 straight-bladed aperture design that create clear 10-point sun stars from specular highlights throughout the aperture range. Optically, this lens sports two double-sided aspherical elements and four low dispersion glass elements, which help control a variety of aberrations and distortion for high sharpness, clarity, and accurate rendering. The lens has a manual focus design with a 7.9" minimum focusing distance for working with close-up subjects.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this lens be used on Canon R7 crop sensor?

A: Yes, the NiSi 15mm f/4 Sunstar ASPH Lens for Canon RF can be used on the Canon EOS R7 Mirrorless Camera, but there will be a crop factor of 1.6X applied to the focal length.

Q: 2. Can I use this with a Rebel T6i?

A: Unfortunately this is designed for Mirrorless cameras, so it is not compatible with your Rebel T6i

Q: 3. what is a protection ring?

A: The protection ring is just a ring that finishes the clean aesthetic of the front of the lens when not using the hood or other filters and it protects the threads as well.

Q: 4. Does it work with a generic 4x6 (100mm) square filter holder? If yes, how is the vignetting when using a square filter?

A: It does work with generic filter holders, but due to variances in design, the amount of vignetting will vary. For instance, if you need to use an adapter or step-up ring, it might be more apparent on the sides. Despite this, with a 113 degree angle, if it does vignette, it should not be very severe.

Q: 5. Is the lens weather sealed at all?

A: No, the NiSi 15mm f/4 Sunstar ASPH Lens for Nikon Z (Black) is not a weatherproof lens. However, the front element has a water-resistant coating; this prevents the lens from marking.

Q: 6. Anyone know if the lens hood on this will fit the original 28mm Elmarit ASPH?

A: I don't think so. As I recall, the original uses a clip-on hood. The new model uses a screw-mount.

Q: 7. Would this lens lose quality being adapted to the Sony A7RIII...?

A: No, there would be no degradation of quality if adapted.

Q: 8. Does it have heavy vignette?

A: Yes it does vignette

Q: 9. I have the lens for the Sony a6300. Vertical pictures are heavily cropped with Black space on the left and right. Could someone explain why ?

A: Because this is a very wide angle lens, it is common to have vignetting on a lens like this, you can change your aspect ration to help it, but unfortunately this is a quality in most wide angle almost fish eye lenses.

Q: 10. can it be use for canon 80d body?

A: No this is not EF mount

Great lens, and perfect for zone focusing and street photography. Easy to use, sharp, love the size for travel, I have been using Leica for 25 years and this lens is the best 28mm lens I have ever used and it is on my list of favorite Leica lenses and works beautifully on the Leica ME 240

This is the platonic ideal of a 28mm lens. It is tiny, built like a tank, and now slightly more attainable at retail with this Made In Portugal version.

28 is the focal length for photographers who are immersed in their scenes. During Covid times, this focal length may not be as, um, practical, but it's not a 24! Get in there! The huge depth of field makes zone-focusing a breeze (at f/16-22 you don't really need to focus at all!) and the discreet form-factor begs for an improvisational, playful, and soulful style of photography. More impulsive than intellectual; more Dionysian than Apollonian. People like to talk about modern aspherical Leica glass as being 'too clinical' or something. To that I say: just because it's technically, mechanically, and optically perfect in almost every way, doesn't mean it doesn't have character or soul. That's where you come in, dummy!

This all sounds great, and it really is. But then you consider your M camera with its .72x viewfinder. And you wear glasses and sometimes even the 35mm framelines are a stretch for you... Well, there's a few things you need, if you're like me. There are a few solutions.
If money is no concern: get an M camera with .58x VF magnification. There's the Bessa R4A or R4M. Leica M6's and MP's were also occasionally made with wide angle viewfinders. They will cost you.
A more democratic solution: Buy a plastic Leica Brightline optical hotshoe viewfinder on eBay for ~$200. Glasses wearers can get a 24mm one, like I did, which also has 32mm framelines, so you can compose shots comfortably. Otherwise a 28 will do.

In closing, I think for a lot of people, this may be the only lens you ever need. Journalists, street photographers, or hobbyists who use photography as personal diary need not look much further. At the end of the day, when the dust has settled, it's just a beautiful arrangement of glass for light to pass through.

I took this lens on a few trips and it never left my M7. I love my 50 summicron but this is just the perfect lens for being on the road. It's tiny. When the hood is removed, my M7 + this lens can easily fit in a coat pocket. With the hood there is very little finder blockage at 0.72. Without the hood there is no finder blockage at all. The glass is absurdly sharp and has beautiful rendering.

At 2.8, there if sufficient background separation. You don't get crazy bokeh or anything since it's 28mm but the separation is exceptional. I considered upgrading to the Summicron for the extra stop of light, I decided against it after trying it out. It's twice the size and twice the price, i can handhold at 1/15th just fine with this lens and i don't feel I need the extra stop very often. This is a wonderful lens.

I am using this lens with film--I cant comment on how it goes with digital cameras. Very sharp, consistent lens at all apertures and across the field of view. Quite smooth continuum between in-focus and OOF areas--if youre obsessed with bokeh this might not be the lens you want, though its there on a relatively subtle level. I dont generally splurge on Leica lenses but I do think this one is significantly better than any cheaper options at this focal length. The attached was taken on TMax 100 on a gloomy day with the aperture wide open.

The lens itself is very nice and appears to work well. I am having some photos taken with it developed tomorrow. One complaint: the zipper on the case is defective; it does not zip completely.

I love the small size and superb sharpness of this lens. I usually carry it with the lens hood removed, with just a filter and the metal lens cap that comes with it. Great for street shooting, it is very discreet and the depth of field makes it easy to get accurate focus. With the excellent noise suppression in the M240, M246 and M10, you don't miss the smaller f2.8 f stop compared to the much more expensive Summicron or Summilux.
