Bought the lens for everyday use with a focus on night photography. I haven't had any issues with the focus and the bokeh is beautiful.

1.2 aperture on this lens gives a quality to the bokeh that simply can't be found anywhere else. Love this lens. its expensive, but worth it if you want 'that look'.

The 50mm 1.2L is a perfect pairing with the 5D Mark II. The softness of the 5D sensor along with the beautiful bokeh of the 50mm 1.2 is just delicious. I use the 50 for general everyday use as well as portrait and detail shots at weddings. The focus is tack sharp and the background blur is flawless. I love the size and weight of it as well, it is solidly constructed and balances the weight of the 5D body really nicely. It is amazing in low light. I was able to handhold a shot of some friends in a dark theater at 1/30 s. Incredible lens, highly recommend it!

For my usage as a Wedding Photographer, this is the best lens in Canon's lineup. If I had to choose one lens to shoot an entire wedding with, it would be this gem. Lighting fast, tack share, even wide open (you have to be careful with your focus though as the depth of field is so narrow). I personally find it's sweet spot for silky bokeh is f/2.0 at 1/200+...gorgeous. It's the first lens I bought as I typically rent. I've used almost every lens in Canon's lineup other than the super telephoto's. This is easily my favorite.

I love love love the depth of field and the clarity on this lens, it is a very noticeable step up from the 50mm f/1.4 which I have been using for the last 5 years. I feel like I just stepped up my game BIG TIME with the 50mm f/1.2 Yes, it's expensive, but you get what you pay for. Focusing is smooth (especially manual focus when shooting video). You can shoot people further away without having to worry about that blurry Chromatic Aberration that I got with the previous (50mm f/1.4). The only thing that's a bummer about it is that it's so bulky, it's a beast, but you'll get used to it, trust me.

- I would pay twice as much for this lens - I never shoot a wedding without it - There is not a single con about this lens. - You won't regret your purchase - Have one of the cheaper 50mm lenses? You will be able to tell a difference!

50 mm f1.2 red line L and expensive as L-- this lens is not for everyone, you don't need to have lens envy, if you don't need the higher speed glass, then don't buy it -- if you need speed, if you shoot available light and don't need depth of field -- or if you want to be creative and throw the foreground and back ground out of focus, or just want your friends to say, he's got a red line then this is the lens for you -- I've seen some reviews saying this high speed glass is not sharp -- huh? -- if you had it on P mode that's possible if not likely -- the depth of field at f1.2 and 50 mm ain't very far -- if you focus on a person's eyes and shoot at f1.2 the back ground will be not sharp and out of focus -- and more than likely neither will the person's nose and ears -- this is a professional lens, if you want to take it to the next level then spend the baht -- if you shoot in P mode most of the time, then save the $$$ and go with a slower f1.4 lens -- I've ran the Lens Chart test on mine and I see NO apparent issues with sharpness -- and keep in mind sharpness is apparent -- there are many other factors which make a shot look apparently sharp -- unless you are in the circles of confusion -- cheers
