Hack Audio: An Introduction to Computer Programming and Digital Signal Processing in MATLAB from Focal Press provides an introduction for musicians and audio engineers interested in computer programming. It is intended for a range of readers including those with years of programming experience and those ready to write their first line of code. In the book, computer programming is used to create audio effects using digital signal processing. By the end of the book, readers implement the following effects: signal gain change, digital summing, tremolo, auto-pan, mid/side processing, stereo widening, distortion, echo, filtering, equalization, multi-band processing, vibrato, chorus, flanger, phaser, pitch shifter, auto-wah, convolution and algorithmic reverb, vocoder, transient designer, compressor, expander, and de-esser.

Throughout the book, several types of test signals are synthesized, including: sine wave, square wave, sawtooth wave, triangle wave, impulse train, white noise, and pink noise. Common visualizations for signals and audio effects are created including: waveform, characteristic curve, goniometer, impulse response, step response, frequency spectrum, and spectrogram. In total, over 200 examples are provided with completed code demonstrations.

Eric Tarr is an assistant professor of Audio Engineering Technology at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. He teaches classes on digital audio, computer programming, signal processing and analysis. He received a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Ohio State University. He received a B.A in Mathematics and a minor in Music from Capital University in Columbus, OH. His work has spanned across the topics of speech signal processing, musical robotics, sound spatialization, acoustic and electronic system modeling, hearing loss, perception, and cognition. He has published articles in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, International Journal of Audiology, and Mechanical Engineering Research. He is a member of the Audio Engineering Society. In 2015, Dr. Tarr received the Gibson Foundation Les Paul Music Innovation Award as the principal investigator of a research grant on "Blockchain Technology in the Music Industry".

A: For the record the Canon EOS T4i/650 is a digital, not film, camera. It has an APS-C sized sensor. I suggest one of either two entry level kit lenses. These cover the most needed focal lengths and are very versatile. The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens B&H # CA1855EFS covers the basic focal lengths and is good image quality lens. If you wish a little more focal length reach you should consider the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens (White Box) B&H # CA18135STMWB.

A: It is Rev-4.

Q: 4. Is the impedance constant on the input side as you add more headphones/speakers to the outputs, or does the input need to be increased as more peripherals are added?

A: I bought two of these boxes to add additional two-channel outputs for connecting three digital recorders simultaneously from my mixer's main mix outputs. After connecting everything, I did not add additional input gain to the splitter boxes, but I did note that the three digital recorders required slightly higher recording levels than they did in their standalone configuration. A: I purchased volume 1 and volume 2. Both bear a copy right date of 2009. The date should not matter because the camera model and features do not change from original design.I will further say that I like the format of the presentation on the dvd's. These discs are an excellent companion for the beginning photography class I am taking at a local community college.

A: The Stearman Press SP-445 Compact 4 x 5" Film Processing System (4 Sheet) has not been tested with double-sided emulsion film.

A: This unit will do exactly that but for TRS (the one with the band in the center of the plug).

A: Yes this is a Instructional DVD, so if your Computer has a Disc Drive this will work.
