Q: 1. For the pure white (non-reversible) is it translucent enough to place a flash behind it to get a really white background?

A: Yes, in order to achieve a solid white color, you would need to place two lights in front of the background and make them at least 2 stops brighter than the light on the subject.

Q: 2. Is this black velvet background?

A: This cloth background is not velvet.

Q: 3. Is this wrinkle resistant? I bought some westcott backgrounds and they're great! No more steaming out wrinkles.

A: It is! It's great :-) the good quality of the product combined with the fact that it's textured means no wrinkles!

Q: 4. Does it have tinkles when open?

A: Yes, there are wrinkles when opening. I carry a handheld steamer and steam before using.

Q: 5. Can we use this as bounce as well?

A: I suppose you could, but just note that the white fabric is quite dull, it doesn't have the same sort of sheen that a traditional reflector has.

Q: 6. How small does it fold up? Small enough to fit in a standard suitcase?

A: Not small enough to fit into a standard suitcase. It is about 30 inches in diameter. Weighs about 5-7 lbs. Isn't packaged to be travel friendly

Q: 7. Is it possible to just buy the bag that the backdrop lives in?

A: The only case we list in our inventory to storea a 5x7' collapsible background would be the Savage Carry Bag for 5 x 7' Collapsible Background (28"), B&H # SACBBAG57. Q: 8. How do you clean it?

A: I never cleaned it because it's collapsible & after using it, I always fold on Black side front & white inside, put it back in it's bag (including with it). Thanks for asking.

Q: 9. What would be the ideal stand/clamp selection for this?

A: I basically just lean the backdrop against the wall for all location shoots.

Q: 10. Has anyone found a smart way to fly with this?? I've checked it with just the bag it comes in but it's getting a little beat up so I'd love a padded sleeve at least. Asking for a friend.

A: If you're looking to add an extra layer of protection within the case, I would personally recommend a heavy duty (flattened) cardboard box or corrugated shipping pads, which can be found at any office supply store. It won't add significant weight and can help shield the backdrop in the case.

Lets be honest, not all of us are pros and still not all of us want to pay several hundred dollars just to shoot a picture with a black or white solid background. I used to have a smooth white wall I would shoot against. Now that I have moved I have no solid surfaces to setup as a quick studio. This is great because you get the solid blacks and whites and can store it easily without moving furniture around in a home. It only has a single loop on the top and one side, not two, I dont think it matters that much though. Put a nail or a screw in a wall or above a door frame and use it to support some of the weight. Practice folding and unfolding. Its tricky until you do it a few times. Its a little on the thin side but I didnt expect it to be super thick for this price. It works best when their is something behind it thats solid. 5

An excellent portable background that stays neatly pressed due to the stretch of the fabric along the collapsible frame. For talking head interviews or portrait shots, it's perfect, and makes limbo backgrounds easier than bringing large sheets of duvetyne along, which don't stay as wrinkle-free. Flip it around, and you have a slightly off-white background which will certainly shoot as such. In the field, that's otherwise a far more difficult background to achieve, and chroma screen results are never as good. 5
