The 62mm W10 Umber Warming Color Conversion Filter by Hoya warms the ambient light entering the lens by 1950° Kelvin, which is a +100 mired shift, by adding a dark amber color to the overall exposure. This filter is excellent when using tungsten-balanced film like CineStill 800T, and you want to create a natural look when shooting outside during the daytime.

The Hoya W10 filter is helpful when:

  • You are using tungsten-balanced film and want to capture natural colors during the daytime instead of the heavy blue cast the film will create.
  • You are shooting tungsten-balanced film indoors with 5500° Kelvin light sources like flashed or studio strobes.
  • W10 is not as strong as the W12, so it will produce a slightly warmer look when used with standard tungsten-balance film.

HOYA Multicoat (HMC) filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated lenses. These popular filters minimize reflection, reduce flare and ghosting, and result in over 97% average light transmission.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this non-coated filter really worth $93.90 when there are so many other options out there?

A: The quality of the glass and the coatings of this filter are superior to many lower cost filters, if you have an expensive lens and or good optical quality, yes it is worth it.

Q: 2. I know that to use this filter on my Minolta X-700, I'd need to expose an additional 1 to 1 stops for pictures to turn out correctly. I'd like to use this filter for a Pentax K-500 Digital Camera. Would I need to many any stop adjustments like I would my Minolta? Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving!!!

A: Yes, any circular polarizer will add stops to the exposure, it depends on the polarizer as to how many stops are added.

Q: 3. Is this 46 mm filter compatible with the 800mm PF lens Z Mount?

A: No, the Hoya 46mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer Filter will not work with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens. That lens can only use the Nikon C-PL460 Slip-In Circular Polarizer, BH #NICPL460 (https://bhpho.to/3HdDhfm).

Q: 4. Does this filter rotate?

A: Yes, the circular polarizer rotates. it enable you to add contrast to colors outdoors, and remove the majority of unwanted reflections form non-metallic surfaces such as water or windows. Keep in mind that if you have a powerful light source 9such as the sun) in the frame, it will eliminate any polarization effects.

Q: 5. What is the proper technique for attaching the filter to the filter threads on the front of the lens? The filter is very thin, with very little to grip, but is further rendered difficult to screw on by the presence of the rotating section of the filter. Basically you can only hold the rotating part so it is tough to get the threaded portion to turn and screw into the threads on the lens. The rotating part just rotates so you can barely get any torque on the threaded portion. I finally got mine to screw in by pushing firmly toward the lens as I turned the filter. I don't want to damage anything. When using this technique the threaded portion turns slowly because it drags more on the lens threads.

A: Since submitting this question, I had a chance to look closely at the filter with my OptiVisor. It seems there is a very thin knurled ring on the threaded part of the filter just below the rotating part. I will have to practice and see if I can master threading it to the lens without cross threading or otherwise damaging anything. I do have a filter wrench, but the threads are so fine and delicate that it is even more difficult to tell if you are crossthreading. That will take some practice, too. The lens filter threads are inside a metal ring of sorts that prevents full sized fingers from being able to grip that knurled surface enough to be able to turn the ring to thread it in.

Q: 6. Is there a comparable filter to this for use with a Formatt Hitech 67mm Aluminum Holder?

A: No equivalent square filter for daylight . For astrophotography PureNight makes a square glass light pollution reduction filter.

Q: 7. Why won’t this filter tighten on my lens? It’s a 62mm and that what my lens takes.

A: The loose portion is the adjustment ring for polarization. Otherwise the filter will fit tight to your filter thread on the lens.

Q: 8. i'm new to photography. can i stack this filter with a protective clear filter or uv filter? i use a nikon d5300 and a af-p dx nikkor 70-300 ed vr telephoto

A: Yes you can stack the filters but in general it is recommended to only use either the clear filter or the polarizer. When you stack more layers of glass, you increase the risk of light flares and ghosting in the photo.

Q: 9. Does this filter come with a case?

A: The packaging for the filter is the case, as you can see in the 2nd photo in our images.

Q: 10. I’ve read this is the USA version of the Hoya Starscape filter, is that true? Or is there a difference with the Starscape from this model?

A: YEs this is the USA version of the filter.
