The M2 MicTrak is designed to fuse the professional guts and features of the F-Series recorders with the convenience and portable form factor of the Handy Series. This middle road allows the M2 to provide excellent functionality at an attractive price, while remaining easy to carry to any recording scenario.

  • 32-bit floating point recording provides excellent headroom and helps to avoid clipping issues
  • High max SPL of 135 dB SPL delivers further protection against clipping for loud sound sources, such as performances, crowds, or instruments
  • 11 hours of battery life for improved operating time and multiple power options, including AA battery, USB bus power, or AC adapter (sold separately)
  • Dual AD converter circuits, derived from the F-Series, make manual input gain adjustment unnecessary
  • Support for broadcast- and film-quality BWF wav format as well as iXML for inclusion of location metadata on files or IP audio streams

The M2 MicTrak is ideal for a wide range of portable sound recording applications from journalism and interviews, to podcasts, streaming, audio for video, and simply field recording or musique concrète. The M2 is small enough to fit in your coat pocket, but powerful enough to handle some of the loudest sounds, and easy to direct towards your sound source with its microphone-style form factor.

Incredible machine, small light and very handy and with amazing sound quality! The price on B&H was great value too - so
what's not to like? Highly recommended.

Caveat: I’ve only owned the Zoom H1n for a few weeks so I don’t know about it’s longevity as it is a tiny piece of technology in a plastic case. But so far, so good. Excellent sound quality, perfect for getting jams, song fragments and licks down. Only negative is that the mics pick up any handling of the unit, like turning the record function on and off. I’m investing in a stereo mic with phantom power to work around that. Useful and logical features are available like lo cut, auto record, auto level, limiter and other features.

We use these recorders to help us develop online education at the George Washington University. They are great because they are portable and easy to use. Our main use for them is to send them to distance faculty to record high quality lecture material. With the auto settings and simple controls, any faculty member is more than capable of recording great quality audio. Then they simply send the recorder back and we do all the editing. Such a simple process with great results thanks to this fantastic (and inexpensive) recorder!

I've used it twice now indoors to record classical music - with the Zoom close to the stage and the video camera farther back on a balcony. I'm quite happy with the results. Thanks.
