A: Yes, the SmallRig F40 mini–Follow Focus will support lenses without gears. the F40 follow focus comes with a Newly designed silicone gear that drives the lens by friction without using follow focus gear. However, the kit also comes with a snap on gear to use the 0.8 MOD / 43T Gear with teeth included with the F40 if you experience any slippage with the friction gear when using the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens.

A: The follow focus is designed to mount on the left side, although SmallRig does include a built-in NATO rail for alternate mounting options.

A: It does not look like that is possible, but I would recommend mounting the follow focus upside down with a 15mm rod that is on top of the lens rather than on the bottom.

A: No there is not. It needs to be mounted to a 15mm Rod. You do not need to build a complicated rig but you will at least need some form of baseplate and 15mm Rod.
