The RME M-32 AD Pro II AVB + MADI 32-Channel A/D Converter is designed to meet the demanding requirements of professional studios, immersive sound installations, live sound systems, and industrial applications that need a reliable solution for reference-class A/D conversion with high-end MILAN-compatible AVB and MADI network audio processing.

While it offers the same outstanding analog performance as its predecessor (with high-resolution converter components and fully balanced signal routing), the M-32 AD Pro II delivers an extremely low THD of -111 dB and optimizes the impulse response at sampling rates of 88.2 kHz and higher to minimize ringing artifacts in the conversion process and achieve 120 dB(A) of dynamic range with very low latencies.

  • 32-channel reference-quality A/D converter, fully symmetrical design
  • 32 analog inputs (25-pin D-sub, up to +24 dBu)
  • 2 MADI I/O (via separately available optical SFP and coaxial BNC, up to 128 channels)
  • 2 RJ45 1 GigE Milan-compatible AVB ports, four streams with 4/8/12/16 channel each
  • MIDI I/O for legacy MIDI remote
  • Wordclock I/O (BNC)
  • USB 2.0 for remote control
  • SyncCheck and ICC detect when a clock source is not in sync and fall back to other available signals
  • MADI Auto-Input provides seamless redundancy
  • 2" display with control knob for full device control
  • Large tricolor backlit channel indicators with peak/RMS metering
  • Magnetic cover with customizable channel labels
  • 15 preset storage, firmware-upgrade persistent
  • Lock (optional code) and dark mode
  • Internal routing of up to 224x192 channels in 4 channel blocks (32 x analog, 64 x MADI optical, 64 x MADI coaxial, and 64 x AVB)
  • Remote control via HTTP, JSON, IEEE 1722.1 AVDECC, MIDI over MADI and optional MIDI
  • 2 monitored, fully redundant internal PSUs
  • Compact 1 RU, 19" enclosure

  • The high-resolution 2" display with rotary encoder provides comprehensive status feedback at a glance and allows access to settings directly at the unit—including clock configuration, preset management, single-channel routing, redundant power supply monitoring, and many more functions.
  • RME AVB devices can be reached over network (including wirelessly over Wi-Fi) and USB for convenient remote access, allowing the rapid creation of gain groups and clock configuration.
  • The integrated routing matrix allows single-channel routing across all analog and digital I/O.
  • Tricolor, backlit channel label fields offer an advantage in fixed installations. Using the included transparent sheets, users can create individual channel labels and securely affix them behind a magnetic cover where they are illuminated depending on signal level. This provides a comprehensive overview of analog channel assignments and signal flow.

  • For maximum compatibility with a variety of analog hardware, the individual channels of the M-32 AD Pro II can be operated with different line levels—each with converters at full resolution.
  • Besides +19 and +13 dBu, the unit is also capable of working with the SMPTE recommendation of +24 dBu at 0 dBFS.

  • The M-32 AD Pro II features two fully redundant MILAN-compatible AVB network ports.
  • The AVB interface is based on the open network standards IEEE 802.1 and 1722.1, enabling transmission of the 32 analog channels at a maximum 192 kHz sampling rate via a single Ethernet cable.
  • Combined with external AVB switches, the M-Series converters can be quickly, easily, and reliably integrated into more complex network structures thanks to the comprehensive time-synchronous signal processing of the AVB protocol.
  • Up to 128 audio channels at 48 kHz (96 at 96 kHz, 64 at 192 kHz) can be sent and received over AVB in total across all streams.
  • Any signal reaching the M-32 Pro II can be routed and streamed over a network with fixed latency and guaranteed bandwidth—no switch configuration is required.

  • The M-32 AD Pro II's two coaxial and optical MADI ports are ideal for redundancy or applications requiring high channel counts at high sample rates.
  • Channels from both MADI ports can be individually routed to and from AVB.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the CD player connect to the Analog Inputs in the back panel? What type of cable connectors should be used? RCA?

A: The best way to connect a consumer CD player to this unit would be to utilize either the S/PDIF Coaxial or S/PDIF Optical digital inputs. The analog inputs are balanced 1/4-inch TRS or XLR, and usually connect to professional audio gear, such as a mixing board or a CD player, such as the Tascam CD-500B Single-Rackspace CD Player (Balanced), BH #TACD500B.

Q: 2. Is the DSD in this model a Quad-DSD (DSD256)?

A: This device can handle DSD256 playback.

Q: 3. Can you digitize vinyl records from an analog turntable or would baby face be better choice since it has a pre-amp?

A: The Babyface has microphone preamps. It would be helpful to know whether the turntable you will be using has phono level output or line level output. If the output is line level, then you can use any USB audio interface that accepts line level input to digitize vinyl. If the output level from the turntable is phono level, then you will need a phono preamp specifically for use with turntables such as the Rolls VP29 Phono Preamp (B&H # ROVP29), Bellari VP549 Phono Preamp (B&H # BEVP549), or ART Precision Phono Preamp for Turntables (B&H # ARPRECPHN). The ART USB Phono Plus Phono Preamp with USB (B&H # ARUSBPPPS) also features a built-in USB audio interface.

Q: 4. Would this permit me to plug a microphone into one of the XLR ports or do I need a seperate mic pre?

A: No, the RME ADI-2 Pro FSR does not have any mic preamps built-in so it is not intended for connecting microphones. You would need to use a separate mic preamp. As another option, you may like the RME Babyface Pro FS 24-Channel 192 kHz Bus-Powered USB 2.0 Audio Interface (B&H #RMBABYFACEPF) which has two analog XLR inputs with mic preamps.

Q: 5. How to get the front panel display out to a larger video display?

A: There is no way to connect the front panel display from the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE High-Performance Converter to a larger video display, but you can run the free RME Digicheck app on a Mac or Windows computer to be able to view the same metering from the spectral analyzer, as well as more options, on a large monitor connected to the computer. Additionally, an ADI 2 Remote app will be available soon that will enable full control from a computer.

Q: 6. Does this have a digital snake box accessory that connects over an ethernet cable?

A: No, the QSC TouchMix-30 Pro 32-Channel Compact Digital Mixer does not have a compatible digital snake box. The unit's Ethernet port is used for connection to a Wi-Fi router.

Q: 7. Can this be hooked up to my RME UFX Plus to add 16 more input channels at 96Khz?

A: Yes it can.

Q: 8. Could I use the line outputs with active studio monitors?

A: The LINE outputs of the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE 2-AD/4-DA 768 kHz, High-Performance Converter (Black Edition),BH # RMDI24PROSE, may be used to drive most active (powered) studio monitors.

Q: 9. Will this model play back FLAC files?

A: No, the RME ADI-2 Pro FSR BE Reference AD/DA Converter with Extreme Power Headphone Amplifiers and Remote does not have the ability play back FLAC files directly.

Q: 10. Which speed light ring would work with this soft box for Godox flashes (the V1c and the AD200?)

A: The Godox S2 Speedlite Bracket for Bowens, B&H # GOS2, and the Impact Speed Ring for Impact, Bowens S, Westcott & Aputure, B&H # IMSRIMPV2, would allow you to connect the Chimera Pro II Softbox for Flash Only (Small, 24 x 32") to the Godox V1 Flash for Canon and the Godox AD200 TTL Pocket Flash.
