Musicians and producers in need of an active MIDI thru box will be impressed with the MIDI Solutions MultiVoltage T8, a 1 RU rackmount 1-input 8-output active MIDI thru box for connecting multiple MIDI devices without the timing issues associated with standard daisy-chaining.

The device's active circuitry cleans up any skewing of MIDI data that has occurred at the input, ensuring reliable operation in setups that require daisy chaining and long cable runs. The unit is MIDI powered and requires no external power supply or batteries. An LED indicator lights up when powered and flashes when data is passed through it. The MultiVoltage T8 is compatible with both the original 5V and the new 3.3V MIDI specification.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the impedance/power specs for the headphone out?

A: MOTU has not published those spec's.

Q: 2. hi, is there a way to connect a digital piano with 1/4 out to midi i/o? so i can connect 3 instruments at same time: microphone, guitar and piano

A: MIDI and Audio are two different types of signals, hence are not compatible. What you could do is get a multi-channel mixer to plug into the audio inputs. The only downside is everything will be recorded to one stereo file, as opposed to individual tracks for every instrument or source.

Q: 3. Is the M4 compatible with Apple's M1 Computers?

A: Not yet compatible with M1 chips.

Q: 4. It appears that the Monitor 1/2 and Line 1/2 both only output Channels 1 and 2. Is that correct? Can Channels 3/4 be outputted

A: Both the Monitor 1 and 2, and Line Out 3 and 4 connectors on the MOTU M6 USB-C Audio/MIDI Interface can be used for connecting monitor speakers or sending line level output to another destination, carrying the output signal from all four input channels. Additionally, the Monitor 1 and 2 outputs are labeled as "A" to use for primary monitor speakers, while the Line Out 3 and 4 connectors are labeled as "B" to use for a secondary pair of monitor speakers.

Q: 5. Is this cable Korg compatible? Arturia compatible? If not, what is?

A: Yes. Compatible provided the Korg and/or Artiria have 3.5mm MIDI connectors. Elektron 121007 Overview Owners of the Model:Samples and Model:Cycles who are looking to connect their machines to other MIDI devices will be delighted with the pair of Elektron CA-3 MIDI Adapters. Each adapter provides a 3.5mm to 5-pin DIN connection. Simply plug into the 3.5mm MIDI ports and connect a MIDI cable to another MIDI device such as an additional Model machine, MIDI interface, synthesizer, or drum machine.

Q: 6. Can this handle a low gain sensitive mic like EV RE20..without cloud lifter ?

A: While it does have enough gain for a mic of this nature, some users have reported noise when turning up the gain, so you may want to consider a fethead or cloud lifter anyway, for the headroom.

Q: 7. If a phantom button is pushed on, will it be memorized after the unit is turned off or disconnected?

A: As per MOTU, the unit would default to it's last settings prior to being powered down. The Phantom Power should remain on.

Q: 8. Are the line outs 3/4 able to be switchable outputs? For example I use Vmix for streaming and need to be able to send something different to my speakers than what is going to my headphones. So I want to make sure I can route output 3/4 as like just playback and main outputs as the master.

A: Line Outputs 3/4 will output the same audio that is coming from your main monitor outputs 1/2. The reason for outputs 3/4 is primarily for routing to outboard gear like reverb or effects processors and then bring that audio back into your line inputs, to mix with your existing audio. You can also monitor through another pair of monitors using line outs 3/4.

Q: 9. I can't get the m4 to turn itself off when the computer shuts down. Has anyone got this to work? Every other usb device does this.

A: The MOTU M4 has a physical on/ff switch, so if your computer is sleeping it will remain on. In order to have it shut down with your computer, you may have to adjust settings in your computer to stop power being sent to USB when shut down.

Q: 10. Is it USB 3.0?

A: No, this would have a USB Type-C Computer Interface.
