Wrangle your controller's velocity output with the MIDI Solutions Velocity Converter, an inline MIDI utility device that applies selected velocity curves to incoming MIDI notes. Curves can be selected from 40 presets, which offer solutions for most velocity processing requirements, while a user defined curve allows you to create a curve to your exact specification.

  • Apply a separate curve to each MIDI channel, allowing the velocity response of a sending keyboard to be matched to individual sound modules that are set to receive on different MIDI channels.
  • Assign velocities based on a selected incoming Control Change value. In this mode, the Velocity Converter stores the value of a selected Control Change message on a selected MIDI channel and applies this value to all incoming velocities on that MIDI channel. It is also possible to add an offset to this value to keep the outgoing velocities above a specified level.
  • Program by sending it MIDI System Exclusive messages. This is easily done with the MIDI Solutions Programming Tools software. Once programmed, its settings are retained even after power is removed. The Velocity Converter can be reprogrammed with new settings as often as needed.
  • The Velocity Converter is MIDI-powered and requires no batteries or power supply to operate with most MIDI products. A MIDI indicator LED lights up when the product is powered and flashes when MIDI data passes through it.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it come with any cables?

A: The MOTU M2 2x2 USB-C comes with 1 USB cable.

Q: 2. I see the "mon" button for monitoring the live input signal. Is there a way to control the mix of live input and computer audio send to the headphones?

A: On the M2, there is no specific way to control the mix of direct monitor and computer audio. On the M4, there is an Input Monitor Mix knob which will allow you to control the blend.

Q: 3. Can you apply EQ and then listen live using loop back with no latency?

A: Yes, you can. Round trip latency is just 2.5 ms, so while it is not no latency, it is about as fast as it can get in this class of interface.

Q: 4. All of the MIDI cables are plugged in to the keyboard and PC but the notes don't appear on my DAW. How can I fix this?

A: The ART M-Connect Midi to USB cable is a plug and play product. If you are unable to establish communication, make sure any drivers necessary for your keyboard are installed, your keyborad is set to transmit MIDI data, and your DAW software is able to receive MIDI via USB.

Q: 5. The specs list the the TRS outputs as DC-Coupled. Will they still work for non-DC-coupled TRS inputs on KRK monitors?

A: Yes, the DC-coupled TRS outputs on the MOTU M4 will help to send a cleaner signal from M4 to the KRK monitors. So there are no issues at all with compatibility and the DC-coupled outputs should provide better quality sound.

Q: 6. Are the line outs 3/4 able to be switchable outputs? For example I use Vmix for streaming and need to be able to send something different to my speakers than what is going to my headphones. So I want to make sure I can route output 3/4 as like just playback and main outputs as the master.

A: Line Outputs 3/4 will output the same audio that is coming from your main monitor outputs 1/2. The reason for outputs 3/4 is primarily for routing to outboard gear like reverb or effects processors and then bring that audio back into your line inputs, to mix with your existing audio. You can also monitor through another pair of monitors using line outs 3/4.

Q: 7. Is the MIDI end of this cable male or female?

A: The MIDI connections on this adapter cable are female.

Q: 8. Have the drivers been updated to work correctly with Apple Silicon M1 and M2?

A: Yes, the MOTU M2 USB Audio-MIDI Interface drivers are now compatible for use with Apple silicon M1 and M2 computers.

Q: 9. I would like to know the delay between the audio signal and the signal you hearIs there a delay or not?

A: No perceptible delay with mine. I haven't tried to measure it.

Q: 10. Does this work with the new Apple Silicon M1 chip?

A: NO. MOTU products are not yet qualified for use with the new M1-powered Macs. The M2 and M4 bus-powered USB audio interfaces are compatible with macOS Big Sur as USB audio class compliant devices, allowing plug-and-play operation with no driver installation needed. A driver will soon be available that provides lower latency performance, loopback channels and Core Audio volume control under macOS Big Sur.
