A multisegment envelope generator (MSEG) is a tool for drawing custom signals for envelopes, automation shapes, looping patterns, oscillator curves, waveshapers, sequencers etc. Five different kinds of MSEGs can be used as Grid modules, and two of them are also available as modulators. Separate devices mean each one is focused on and optimized for its particular task.
Segments is a customizable envelope that can be used as a Grid and Polymer module or as a modulator that controls any parameter. Four Play Mode options are available for Segments:
- One-shot: plays through the entire shape (while the voice is alive) when a note is triggered
- Hold: can use any one of the curve's points as the hold/sustain level, which also acts as the release start
- Looping: can loop forward between any two of the curve's points on sustain; the loop end point is also the release start
- Ping Pong: can loop forward and backward between any two of the curve's points on sustain; the loop end point is also the release start
Curves: LFO modulator and Grid module can sync to the beat time or groove.
Scrawl: Draw your own oscillator for The Grid or Polymer, Bitwig’s hybrid modular synth. Antialiasing helps make any shape work and sound natural.
Slopes: Pattern sequencer for The Grid with stereo phase options.
Transfer: Waveshaper for transforming incoming audio or other signals in The Grid.
Clicking any curve display opens the curve editor in a pop-out editor window that allows for easy freehand drawing. There are also shortcuts for jumping to double time or triplets. All your designs can be saved as a BWCURVE file and loaded in another MSEG. A visual browser displays all presets and user content at a glance.
- Bitwig's modulation system sets itself apart with a powerfully simple approach: Any control source—including audio or CV signals—can affect any device or plug-in. In Bitwig Studio Producer, modulators are no longer limited to devices—they can grab the mixer and project controls as well. That means one LFO can modulate any device on the same track as well as the track's panning, sends, and other parameters. Move that LFO to the project level to add modulations to all devices, channel strips, and transport targets.
- Furthermore, MSEGs aren't the only 5.0 modulators with pop-out editor windows. The Steps and Keytrack+ modulators, as well as The Grid's data sequencers also now have resizable panes for cleaner editing and some helpful new functions.
Bitwig Studio Producer feature browsers with a streamlined experience and provide a visual way to access content. Search results for plug-ins, presets, and wavetables (etc.) all live in one place. There's also a customizable shortcuts pane that allows users quick access to their favorite sound packages, content types (e.g. wavetables, drum hits, or samples), or folders.
- Chance: Makes each event more or less likely
- Repeats: Allows each event to retrigger at a set rate, or just divide the note length into any number of pieces. Yes, you can ramp the timing of these (and the velocities for note repeats). And a Slice at Repeats option is available to print out the individual events
- Occurrence: Sets conditions for each event, like: Is this the first loop of the clip or not? Is the performance-control Fill button turned on? Or did the previous event play, or was it silent?
- Recurrence: Treat each event as its own looping timeline. So, pick a cycle length (say, every four loops of the clip), and then select whether the event plays on which of those four passes
- Bitwig's engine uniquely allows expression automation for notes and audio
- And since randomness was in the air, they brought in a visualized Spread range for any expression point. You can give note velocities randomization, but you can also give each piece of a chord its own panning. Or create a note that starts in tune and then drifts to a random pitch. Or, give each slice of an audio clip a slightly randomized gain
- With the editor open, all destined random values are visualized when the clip starts. And then again, the new values appear when the next loop cycle begins. When the interface and sound is this tightly connected, you've harnessed the chaos and can just make music
- You can even cast the dice yourself by clicking the Seed field of any clip. If you like what you hear, you can lock the same random pattern in for all Spread parameters—and any events with a Chance Operator
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. How bright is the monitor?
A: Brightness is good, no issues with that, did have issues with the tapped holes not lining up for assembly...no time to send back had to drill and tap to make it work
Q: 2. Can it be mounted on a stand as another set-up option?
A: Yes, it may be mounted on any of the supported tripods (check our product's accessories section for compatible models) as an additional setup option.
Q: 3. is there anyone who can give the total dimensions of the prompter ? Has it a 4/3 or a 16/9 screen ?Does the horizontal bar to mount the camera on the back is easily removable ?Thank you
A: Teleprompters in general will be designed with a monitor that is closer to 4:3 than 16:9, including this item from MagiCue. This also features tool-less assembly and folds flat for transport and storage, because of that it should be easy to adjust the horizontal bar and mount cameras off and on it.
Q: 4. What type of Tripod Mount does it have? 1/4 and/or 3/8?
A: Yes. It has both. There is one 3/8 -16 hole in the center, and it is flanked by two 1/4 -20 holes. // Also, if there are any other technical or product related questions, feel free to contact us directly at any time at support@dracobroadcast.com.
Q: 5. Two questions:1) Does it keep the text in the middle of the screen so the eyes stay focused in the center and can this be adjusted via the software. Basically we don't want darting eyes as they read the top corner when the camera is focused in the middle of the glass.2) Can text be enlarged or shrunk pending on conditions? Thank you
A: Thank you to all who answered this. // Also, if there are any other technical or product related questions, feel free to contact us directly at any time at support@dracobroadcast.com.
Q: 6. Can the MPC X stream multiple tracks via USB into Ableton?
A: This is a stand-alone music producton workstation, but you can record into the MPC 2.0 software, and then exporting the files individually into Ableton.
Q: 7. Does this work ONLY with the MagiCue software?
A: You will be able to use any Teleprompter Software with this system. Just as long as the computer you are using with this prompter works with the software.
Q: 8. how to download magicue pro software when receiving the shipment?
A: The software is available online; you just need to get a code to activate it.
Q: 9. The support email for the Pro Software is no longer valid. How do I get the activation code for the prompter software? It should really be given at the time of purchase.
A: Here is a link to the Magicue activation form: https://dracobroadcast.com/magicue-software-activation/
Q: 10. My existing set-up incorporates Google Docs as my script and don't want to use the provided software as it will disrupt my workflow. Does the VGA display just mirror the screen of a computer? I already found a Chrome Extension that will flip the screen horizontally. Thanks for your insight!
A: The VGA, HDMI, DVI and Composite inputs do not require any special software, they are simple inputs that can accept a variety of sources. Just as long as you have the extension to flip the screen, you will be able to use this teleprompter with Google Docs.
