Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can a magic arm be mounted onto this?

A: If it is the Manfrotto Magic Arm that is used, it can be inserted into the base of this stand in place of the pole. The Magic Arm can also be screw into the pole using the 3/8 female threading at the end of the arm, though this may make the stand unstable.

Q: 2. Is this made of aluminum or steel?

A: This Manfrotto Backlight Stand Base (Black, 3.15") is made of steel.

Q: 3. With this stand can I get my light down to the floor? because I know you can do it with the column stand, but I don't have enough height in my studio for that stand

A: Minimum working height is 42.5".

Q: 4. what is the difference between the Manfrotto 126BSU and the 126BSUAC?

A: The main difference is that the Manfrotto 126BSUAC is air-cushioned while the 126BSU is not. Otherwise, all the other specifications on the stands are the same.

Q: 5. What are the column and riser tube diameters?

A: The column tube diameters are 30, 35, 40 mm and the leg diameter is 22 mm.

Q: 6. Would this stand accept a basic speedlight? Or is the connector best for strobes?

A: The connector is made for strobes. You would need an adapter and then it would be fine.

Q: 7. Can I add wheels to this stand? Which ones do you suggest?

A: The Manfrotto Short Wind-Up Stand (Black, 9') BH #MA087NWSHB is compatible with B&H # MA104 or B&H # MA104G.

Q: 8. Will this light stand work with my Impact Octacool 6 Fluorescent 2 Light Kit

A: As the Manfrotto 126BSUAC Heavy Duty Air Cushioned Steel Cine Stand uses the standard Baby (5/8 ) stud used by the Impact Octacool-6 Fluorescent Light (as well as the larger Junior (1-1/8 ) receptor), the Impact Octacool-6 Fluorescent Light may be connected to the 5/8 stucd on the Manfrotto light stand.

Q: 9. Do these really collapse down to 12 ? I need something small for travel.

A: They are very small footprint - to the length of the first node - just make sure you have a sand bag or equivalent - you can always use your tripod adding a bit for lights on top

Q: 10. I see 22mm casters for recommended accessories, is this the right size for this stand?

A: Yes.

I used normal avenger boom for long time but after i broke strobe head tight nob i have to consider buying this. I am very happy with this one just so easy and precise control. But be aware this is 9 feet long and heavy in the tube box. I pick it up at BH loading dock with my mini van.

Portrait and product photo in studio. Used with 25-30 lb load and additional balance weights. Very well made and sturdy. Easy to adjust. Con: large foot print; med. heavy, but large capacity

It's the only thing my studio was missing. Love this piece of equipment!

I have used my old boom everyday in a studio setting for 20 years, finally wore out the gears. Did not hesitate to order another one. I was glad I could order the boom separately since my base was still working fine. The boom will save you a lot of time adjusting your overhead light. Well worth the money.

This is great peace and very helpful in my studio. Geared controls is a must and it's so easy to use. Very solid heavy duty stand. Not many parts to put together, but it could at least include the manual.

This is great for getting a modifier up around the subject but being able to fine-tune the angle and distance, etc. Only two complaints are 1) I wish it would hold larger modifiers. A giant softbox is hard for it to hold at an angle without slipping, and I have the crank maxed out on tension! 2) the wheels need brakes. I have a couple uneven parts to the floor I shoot on, so it 'settles' about a foot or so away from where I leave it. Brakes seem like they should be standard for a $ stand.

You have an investment in your lighting gear; do not waste your money on a inexpensive stand. I use this stand with the PhotoFlex 7' octodome with grid. I do not have to use any sand bags. This stand is a very stable platform for any large soft box. I buy Bogen products because they will out last me; your children will use this stand long after you are gone.

The big deal about this boom assembly is the ability to change the direction of the light head with the hand cranks located at the end of the boom. Esp. when the light head is high over a set. Certainly saves time! Highly recommended! However...the screw knob that holds it to the light stand was not included. (And it's a fussy 6mm metric size...hard to find! Had to rob one from a swivel bracket that I already had. :( )

Like all the manfrotto stands I use this one just awesome. It is on the heavy side, but thats to be expected with a steel stand. The leveling is nice feature too. I use this stand for as my boom stand to hold a 300w monolight and it works great.

It is actually so much easier to adjust the light, that this stand has made me a better photographer. I have never spent more then 160.00 bucks on a boom and thought it time to give this a try. Not only did it make my daily life easier and less chaotic, it straight made me take better pictures. It made me throw the lights around in different positions that I wouldn't have tried because of how much time it takes. The only con is that my studio is much more long then wide... The boom arm is a hair over 8 ft long and then add the light to the end. This stand was created for a studio and for a decent sized one.
