Sporting a distinctive large aperture and deep light bucket, the Explore Scientific FirstLight 254mm f/5 Dobsonian Telescope gives users a simple yet highly effective platform. The fast f/5 focal ratio, hexagonal rack-and-pinion focuser, and the ability to detach the OTA from the rockerbox and mount it on an equatorial mount make the FirstLight a good choice for imaging. A Vixen-style dovetail plate is included for use with an EQ mount. The 2.5" focuser allows the use of both 1.25" and larger 2" eyepieces and accessories.

The heavy base provides a rock-steady platform with very low vibrations, and can be disassembled into flat sections within minutes for easy transport. Dual mounting rings allow the OTA to be precisely balanced for smooth movement. The telescope comes with a red dot finder, a red-beam flashlight with lanyard, a Tirion Double-Sided Multi-Latitude Planisphere, and a double-sided moon crater map.
