The 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Canon EF-M Mount from Bower is a manual focus wide-angle prime lens compatible with Canon APS-C format mirrorless digital cameras. It provides an 83.1° angle of view which translates into a 35mm format focal length equivalency of 25.6mm. A fast maximum aperture of f/2.0 is effective in low light shooting and provides shallow depth of field. With two aspherical lens elements and high index extra-low dispersion glass, chromatic aberrations are minimized and sharp, color-accurate images are the result. Full multi-coating facilitates even light transmission and reduces ghosting and flares.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is does this lens perform in video mode? Looking for a budget option to the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 because I don't have a mirrorless camera.

A: This is a great choice when compared with the Sigma, but with two potential disadvantages. Its aperture is a little smaller than the Sigma's f/1.4, and this lens is manual-focus only, whereas the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 has autofocus capabilities.

Q: 2. I own this lens. Has anyone ever tried it on a FF body? The reason I ask, is that it connects to the 7D at the red dot, not the white square. It takes great shots for astrophotography, no coma to my eye at all. I focus using live view, magnified, mirror lock up, and at ISO 1600, +1.5 EV, works great at new moon. Remote shutter release a must.

A: This is an Canon EF-S lens, which means it is for cropped sensor cameras. It will not work with Canon Full Frame Cameras that have a EF mount. They are not compatible.

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible for Nikon FX format as well? Or is it only compatible with the DX format?

A: It is strictly a DX lens.

Q: 4. Will this manual lens be suitable for nighttime wide angle astrophotography for a Canon T3i DSLR?

A: Most zooms have maximum apertures of f:3.5 to f:4.0. With this opening at f:2.0, you gain two stops of light. It would be for instance the equivalent of being able to take a picture at ISO 400 instead of 1600 or to take a picture at 1/15 of a sec. instead of 1/4. Since astrophotography must be taken on a tripod anyways and asks for slow speeds, I would not say that this lens is really a plus for astrophotography. But it is a good quality lens for the price.

Q: 5. Will this work with the canon 6d?

A: This lens is designed for EF-S mount cameras and will not be compatible with Full Frame EF mount cameras like 6D.

Q: 6. What is the length of this lens?

A: This lens has a focal length of 16mm and a physical length of 4.56 inches.

Q: 7. Anyone use this for astrophotography? constellations and star trails are my goal.

A: Yes. That is what I purchased this lens for. However, be aware that in addition to being manual focus, it also has a manual aperture, and there are no contacts on the lens to transfer anything from the lens to the camera. So focusing the lens with small apertures can be difficult. I missed this fact when I ordered it, but since I bought it primarily for astrophotography, and use it at f2 it is not a huge problem. I believe these functions do work on Nikons. It is well built and seems to work well. Only had two chances to try it since I got it.Ralph Pokorny

Q: 8. When on a crop sensor is it equivalent to a 24mm lens on a full frame sensor? Or is it a 16mm FOV?

A: When on a APS-C sized sensor its field of view of 69.7 degrees x 49.9 works out to the equivalent of a 24mm on a full size sensor

Q: 9. Hello! Does it work perfectly on an APSH 1.4 crop sensor suck the 1DXii 4k mode?

A: No, sorry it will not work perfectly. In fact, it would not work without severe vignetting. We are also of the opinion that it will not even mount on the camera since EF-S lenses are blocked from mounting on an EF mount cameras.

Q: 10. I have the CANON EFs24mm STM that I use for Landscapes, is there an major increase in field of view with the 16mm, comparing to the 24mm field of view ?

A: That lens, the EF-S 24mm, is giving you over 38mm on a crop sensor, without knowing field of view, I'm not sure what you would end up with. I'm no expert on this, but I believe Canon always gives focal length in 35mm equivalent. But even at that length, you could use it for astrophotography, less field of view.
