Producers, musicians, and podcasters can record at home or on the go with the CAD CX1, a portable USB-C audio interface that combines quality sound with operational simplicity in a compact and lightweight package. The single preamp with combo XLR-1/4" inputs and gain knob enables you to record either a microphone via the XLR connector or a line-level device via the 1/4" connector.

The CX1 captures audio at professional 24-bit / 96 kHz resolution. It offers 48V phantom power for use with studio condenser microphones. The interface is fully USB bus-powered—no external power source required. A volume knob controls the level of the monitors or the headphone out—great for quietly monitoring yourself while performing. For complete recording freedom, the interface is compatible with almost any recording software on Windows or Mac laptop or desktop computers.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the green signal/clip indicator LED glow from dim to bright as the signal level increases?

A: The LED will light up green when an input signal is recognized, and red if the signallevel is too high which may cause distortion or “clipping”. THe green level does not change from dim to bright.

Q: 2. Is this something you can plug studio monitors into and use to control volume?

A: While the Audient EVO 4 Desktop 2x2 USB Type-C Audio Interface will connect to studio monitors for audio output and volume control, this is limited to its functionality while acting as an interface to a DAW. For a studio monitor selector and volume controller, we recommend BH #MABKPSMC Mackie Big Knob Passive Studio Monitor Controller: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1313074-REG/mackie_big_knob_passive_studio.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 3. When monitor is enabled, is computer audio mixed in with the monitor mic loop?

A: Audio from the microphone will be routed directly to the headphones when Direct Monitoring is ON. You will hear only audio from the computer when the Direct Monitoring is not engaged. .

Q: 4. If I supply 5V USB power will the preamps operate with a mic or guitar signal and the 1/4" output works? Or Is this like the TC-Helicon GO TWIN that can't do anything at all without a computer connected? That interface won't even turn on without a computer connected.

A: The M-Audio M-Track Duo Desktop 2x2 USB Audio Interface is bus powered via USB and it can be used with iOS devices when used with an Apple Camera Connection Kit, a USB breakout cable, and a USB power adapter. Connection to a computer is not required.

Q: 5. Could I also use this Rode AI-1 to monitor audio while I edit in Premiere or edit audio in Audition?

A: Yes, and it is recommended to use the interface as your monitoring device.

Q: 6. Is it still possible to ignore the dedicated DI and instead use the 2 mic/line pres for 2 separate electric guitars? Can the 2 inputs be used as instrument inputs like the Motu M2?

A: Just one instrument input: "This unit may look tiny, but it packs two pristine mic pres, a Hi-Z input for instruments, two 1/4" monitor outputs, and a headphone out that can power a variety of cans with power and punch." Analog I/O: 2 x Combo XLR-1/4" TRS Balanced Mic/Line Input 1 x 1/4" TS Unbalanced Hi-Z Input 1 x 1/4" TRS Unbalanced Headphone Output 2 x 1/4" TRS Balanced Monitor Output

Q: 7. Does this interface work without drivers (class compliant) or does it require M-Audio drivers to operate?

A: The M-Audio M-Track Duo 2x2 USB Audio Interface is class-compliant for Macs and requires a downloadable driver for Windows.

Q: 8. Can this properly drive the Rode Podmic without the need for a cloudlifter?

A: Technically it can, but you will find yourself turning the gain all the way up, which will introduce noise. For best results it is recommended to use either the Cloud Lifter or Triton Fet Head.

Q: 9. Please advise if you can comfortably say that the ESI Maya 44 is a direct replacement to M-Audio Delta 1010LT PC Sound Card. If not, can you suggest any other manufacturer that may have the same benefits as the M-Audio's; or advise the difference(s) between the ESI & M-Audio products mentioned above. Thank you?

A: This card is not a direct replacement for the Delta card in several ways; not the least of which is that the output of the MAYA44 is unbalanced high impedance low level line audio, versus the balanced low impedance high level output of the Delta 1010. I had about a dozen of the Delta series and have tried several replacements for it since being discontinued by M-Audio. This card works in place of a Delta 44, but with the understanding that the outputs are not fully compatible in level and impedance. As for a direct replacement of the Delta series cards, there is nothing I have found in a buss card (several USB options out there) anywhere in this price point. Obviously, Audio Science and Digigram makes exact replacement boards, but at 10x the price.

Q: 10. Is this unit sufficient to use with the Shure SM7B?

A: Yes, you can use the EVO 4 with a Shure SM7B. There is sufficient gain for the mic with the built-in preamp. However, if you find that you require more volume from the mic for your application, you can add a Cloudlifter, FetHead or similar device between the mic and EVO 4 for additional gain.
