Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is this us made?

A: This item is made in China.

Q: 2. Is it neccessary to use an attenuator for very short runs (50m) or does anyone know the receiver overload power?

A: No you should not need to use anything like an attenuator when using the Blackmagic Design 3G SFP Optical Module.

Q: 3. what is the latency?

A: No official latency numbers are available, however Anandtech benchmarked this card and found that its average latency is 57ms with 9k jumbo frames, or 63ms with default settings.

Q: 4. What type of Fibre-Optic cable does this use? One with LC connectors?

A: Blackmagic Design fiber products use singlemode duplex cable with LC connectors. An example cable would be a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/992948-REG/hybrid_fiber_systems_smd9_lc_lc_030_9u_125u_singlemode_duplex_lc.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/992948-REG/hybrid_fiber_systems_smd9_lc_lc_030_9u_125u_singlemode_duplex_lc.html/a

Q: 5. Are these compatible with the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G-SDI?

A: Yes it will work.

Q: 6. Can I take my existing simplex SC/APC terminated fiber, convert it to simplex LC connector and use this product for input?

A: Yes, that should be possible.

Q: 7. Will this work with black magic camera converters?

A: The FieldCast 3G Video SFP Optical Fiber Transceiver has not be approved for use with the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G-SDI. We recommend using the Blackmagic Design 3G SFP Optical Module (BH #BLADPT3GB) instead.

Q: 8. How many Distance covered this SFP?

A: Approximately 1000 feet.

Q: 9. Will this support NBASE-T (the ability to auto-negotiate with a switch running at something faster than 1Gb & slower than 10Gb?

A: No, the QNAP Mellanox MFM1T02A-SR 10GbE Transceiver only supports SPF+, it may have problems negotiating with other connection speeds.

Q: 10. Can it be used with multimode fiber for short runs (¿OM3?) ?

A: Short answer is Yes it has worked with multi mode fiber on short runs but it’s unreliable over time so I would recommend getting a multi mode sfp module if that’s the fiber you have to work with

We have used the Cisco SG series switches for many years and were disappointed when the line was discontinued but the new CBS line is just as good. Some minor variations in how the software is laid out but otherwise, they are just as easy to use as the SG line.
