Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. We wish to use the Zacuto Z-drive with the Canon C100 Mark II mounted to the DJI Ronin Gimbal & attached to the EASYRIG CINEMA 3 with the Flowcine Puppeteer. Do you know if it will be compatible?

A: Using a manual follow focus with a gimbal defeats the purpose of the gimbal. every time you touch the focus handle you will move the camera. What you need for that kind of setup is a wireless follow focus. The other option is to remove the Ronin and mount the C100, with the Z-drive, directly to the Easyrig.

Q: 2. Is zacuto VCT arri M6 rosette applicable to other site of plate? It was on older version

A: No. The Rosette mount is only on the right side of plate. The design of the Model of plate does not allow you to move/ or attach another rosette on the left side. You would have to attach a rosette system on the rails to accommodate rosette mounts for left and right connections.

Q: 3. how heavy is the act base plate?

A: It weighs 2 pounds or 950 grams

Q: 4. How useful is this design for handheld work (not on shoulder)? I don't find any images of it angled back toward camera operator on left side of camera (just forward for shoulder rig). If holding at chest or waist level, would it be comfortable to focus?(And I assume one can hold the handle of the ff to support the camera? No slip being just on one rail?)(FYI: Would ideally be used on FS5 with no rig.)

A: I have an fs7, and the configuration you are talking about works nicely, especially if you have the zacuto universal baseplate as the connection point for your 15mm rods, which is what i have.

Q: 5. I assume that this can also be used with a manual zoom lens to control the zoom function, yes? For instance the Canon EF 24-70mm lens.

A: Sure, yes

Q: 6. How can I get my matte box to mount with this? I'm struggling to make it fit on Canon Cine Primes.

A: To use a Zacuto Z-Drive (B&H# ZAZDRV) with a Canon Cine Prime lens you may need to add a (higher) riser plate/base plate to your camera so that you can achieve the desired distance between the gear on the lens' focus ring and the gear on the Z-Drive. That is because this particular product is more typically used with smaller lenses.

Q: 7. Does it come with follow focus gear rings? For PhotoLenses

A: Unfortunately no. B&H # (this B&H kit) ZAZDRVK, does not dome with any Follow Focus Gear Rings. Only the Z-Drive and Tornado Grip for Z-Drive. Zacuto Z-Drive https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1011583-REG/zacuto_z_drive_with_tornado_grip.html Zacuto Tornado Grip for Z-Drive https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1007083-REG/zacuto_z_trn_tornado.html

Q: 8. Has Zacuto fixed the problem with operation in hot temperatures?

A: There have been no updates on this from the manufacturer

Q: 9. Would this fit a FS5 or Fx6?

A: 100% Yes. one of the best VCT plates in the game meant for any serious working rig in production.

Q: 10. With the first version of Universal VCT, with a Sony FS7, the stock LCD was too close to the face, with no possibility of moving the camera forward. Did someone try this new version with a FS7? Is it possible to move the camera enough forward to get the stock LCD with stock bracket to a good distance of the face?

A: Sony designed the LCD to be used with the loupe when in shoulder mode. Thus the LCD mounting rod, while improved with a non-twisty square post with the F7 Mark II, is not really meant to extend the LCD in shoulder mode. Since Zacuto is all about getting the camera back on the shoulder, and not forward, I do not see this plate being able to do what you wish.
