Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will it hold a 5D Mark III with a Tamron 17-50 attached, a Canon 100-400, and Canon 70-200? I spend a lot of time at Wildlife Refuges and never know what I may need. Thanks

A: Hi William,You could use this bag with the rig you described; the two large telephotos on each end, and the camera with lens attached in the center. But that would be it; especially if you have the tripod collars on the lenses and lens hoods as well. They would protrude a little towards the top but that wouldn't be a problem since the top flaps over and hooks closed. There's no padding on this bag at all, which is great if you want to keep it light as possible, and there is a roomy front pocket for cables and batteries and such, so if you're just out for a short trip and dont need a lot of extra equipment, i'd say it would do the trick. But I wouldn't recommend it for a long shoot in Africa where dust and protection of equipment is an issue.

Q: 2. will this hold a MacBook pro 14 inch?

A: compagnon Element Sling 11 Camera Backpack (Volcano Black) has an opening for an 11 inch tablet. That won't fit a Macbook Pro 14 inch unfortunately.

Q: 3. I see folks saying their iPad mini will fit in the back pocket...but has anyone fit an iPad Pro in there?

A: An iPad mini will fit in that pocket.

Q: 4. Will this fit a Nikon z8 with a will it fit a NIKON Z8 with 24-120 z lens attached and a 14-30 z lens?

A: The Compagnon Element Sling (Volcano Black, 7L) will not fit the Nikon Z8 with a lens attached due to the height of the camera body.

Q: 5. Is the current F6 made with the same heavy cotton canvas that Domke used in the past?

A: Yes, but the inserts aren't the best.

Q: 6. Will this bag hold a D7500 with 18-300 lens attached? Rearrange the interior of course. Prefer the camera and lens lay horizontal in the bag. Maybe on one side but prefer not. Grab and go bag, used Domke before. Thanks.

A: Yes, you can fit the Nikkor AF-S DX 18-300mm lens mounted on the D7500 in the Domke F-6 Little Bit Smaller Bag (Black).

Q: 7. Are there loops/straps on the bottom for attaching a tripod or similar item?

A: compagnon Element Backpack (Desert Brown, 20L) accepts the tripod on the side of the bag. Same place where you could place a large water bottle. The bottom of the case does not have straps.

Q: 8. Can the optional FA-226 insert be used together with the 4 compartment insert that ships with the bag? (Both inserts in the bag at the same time in other words)

A: Yes the FA-226 Insert will be compatible with this case just fine. I checked the Domke site, and it said it will fit fine.

Q: 9. How durable are the shoulder straps and seams? I've been disappointed with the poor quality of some expensive big name packs.

A: The shoulder straps and seams on the compagnon Element Backpack (Volcano Black, 20L) are durable.

Q: 10. Is the F6 currently made in USA?

A: Yes, the Domke F-6 is made in the USA.

The F-6 is a great little bag especially if you want to shoot with prime lenses. It comes with a 4-area compartment that you can move back and forth or even take out and replace with a different insert. Inside my F-6 is a D700 with 35 f2 mounted sitting on the side, the 4-area compartment holds a 50 1.8, 85 1.4, 105 VR, and 180 2.8. The 77mm diameter lenses fit fine. The 4-area compartment is also collapsible meaning you can easily collapse it to become a 2-area compartment instead of 4 by removing the foam inserts and folding it. I don't like the 2 metal clips flying around when I lift the flap as this can hit your glass easily. I also didn't like how there is no velcro under the flap for easy closing/opening, it relies on those two metal clasps instead. What I did was I cut them off and sewn a velcro under the flap. Overall a great bag.

I have spent the better part of the last 8 years looking for a walkaround bag for a body and a few primes. I have gone through several bags, sticking mostly with a Tamrac system 6 that did well holding a body and a few lenses. However, while it did the job, it always felt stiff and was often a hindrance to carry. Additionally, when I switched to Canon, I upgraded and started picking up larger L primes whereas before I was using the smaller Nikon primes like the 85 1.8 and 35 2.0. This led me to look at the F-6 as it is similar in size (on the outside, far larger in the main compartment) and holds far more. For me it holds a 7D+grip, 17-40L, 85 1.8, 135L, and a 200L in the main compartment with my charger and accessories in the front compartment. I have a small pouch hooked to the strap to hold a G11 as well. PROS -Conforms extremely well while carrying and makes it way comfortable -Swallows an enormous amount of gear compared to similarly-sized bags -The strap design holds to your shoulder well and does not slide as you move -Very easy access to all your gear -No end-pockets and less padding make this bag extremely compact CONS -No side pockets like F-2 means less space for stuff you may need quick access to. If you need them, get a different bag. -Unpadded strap is uncomfortable over long period when carrying a lot of gear. I suggest getting a pad for the strap. -Lack of padding (unless you use the inserts) may be an issue for some -If you use the included 4-section insert, the camera cannot be placed in the bag with the lens attached. -A bit too shallow and small to hold 70-200 lenses well

I bought this bag because I wanted something a little different looking and I also wanted something that did not scream camera bag! I carry a D40x with a 17-35, 70-300, and an 18-55 and it by no means fills this bag. I usually leave the 17-35 attached and its fits perfectly. Leaving the 70-300 attached, it fits, but it makes the flap bulge a little. Keep in mind that this bag does not have the padding that 'normal' camera bags have. I feel pretty safe that nothing will happen to my gear with this bag, but Im also a little more careful than I would be with a more padded bag. My only gripe is the lack of padding on the shoulder strap, there is basically none. Again, this bag isn't huge, so you can't fill it with too much weight, but it still can get uncomfortable.

There are times when I do not need to carry everything. I have several of the large Domke bags and loved them. I needed something just a little smaller and found it in this F-6 bag. It carries my digital SLR with 2 extra lenses and a flash just fine. It is very comfortable on the shoulder and stays close to your body. It's durable and I have found it is also cleanable. The outside pocket is just the right size for a notepad and a snack. It's just the right size for those last minute grab and go jobs.

I bought this because I needed a smaller shoulder bag than my Domke F-2. I already loved the F-2, so wanted to get something very similar, just smaller. The F-6 is perfect in that respect! Small enough so that I don't fill it up with heavy gear, but large enough to fit two camera bodies and three or four lenses. Please note that the F-6 is small, so your f/2.8 L zooms will not fit into the supplied padded four-pocket compartment with their lens hoods on and reversed, the 24-70L is a very tight fit even without the hood. But I bought the F-6 for those times when I want a small outfit. For those times when I want to carry just a little more, I grab my F-2!

I've been using this bag constantly since I got it a few weeks ago, and I love it! It's the perfect size to use for travel photography, allowing you to carry a fair amount of gear with you, while still being small enough to remain mobile. My favorite feature is how the bag doesn't even look like a photo bag, so thieves are less tempted to try to snatch your stuff! I would definitely recommend this to a friend and re-purchase if something happened to mine.

Wanted a bag that didn't announce to everyone that I was carrying a camera. Holds my Cannon Rebel and a 300mm lens with room to spare for wallet, cell phone etc., comfortable to carry.
