Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. For new home, is Dream Machine Pro simple enough to set up to provide network security for house?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Dream Machine Pro is intended only for advanced users, as support and documentation will be limited and users are expected to already have a good comprehension of Ubiquiti systems and networking. It would be considered overkill for residential use in most cases.

Q: 2. Can u hear noise from the fan

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Dream Machine Pro BH #UBUDMPRO is very silent but if you are in a very quiet environment, it is possible you might be able to hear it. Installing it on a rack away from your desk would be best practice and you wouldn't be able to hear it.

Q: 3. how do I connect SPF+ 10 GB it to SPF switches 1GB?

A: You can use something like the Ubiquiti Networks UF-RJ45-1G Copper FiberModule BH #UBUFRJ451G if you need copper. If you have SFP 1Gb, you can use the Ubiquiti Networks UF-MM-1G SFP Multi-Mode Fiber Module (2-Pack) BH #UBUFMM1G.

Q: 4. Is it possible to connect to a wifi network as the incoming feed, such as using a Unifi AP? I have a client whose office is in an old building and has internet provided by the landlord via WiFi.

A: If there are no Ethernet jacks in the office connected to the same network, no, you would need to use a different device to connect it to the same Wi-Fi network.

Q: 5. Does it support push notifications to phone and email when motion is detected on the cameras?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UNVR UniFi Protect NVR BH #UBUNVR will support notification via text/e-mail via the companion UniFi app for iOS and Android.

Q: 6. Are there any fees associated with the device? Are all updates (including security definitions) free?

A: Outside of paying your ISP for internet service, no, there are no fees associated with the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Dream Machine Pro BH #UBUDMPRO.

Q: 7. I can install just one 8TB drive to get started right?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UNVR UniFi Protect NVR (BH # UBUNVR) features four 2.5/3.5" drive bays that can each accept HDDs up to 8TB. So just one 8TB drive may be installed if so desired.

Q: 8. I've read things about UI using generic USB flash drives glued to store the OS. How often do these fail because of that (as opposed to an SSD)?

A: We have no statitistics regarding USB flash drive failure, but generally speaking SSD memory would be more reliable over the long term.

Q: 9. I have a Dream Machine Pro, does this add a 3rd WAN, or does it replace the second wan? Can I have 3 total WANs, Primary, Secondary and Cellular with this?

A: Unfortunately this would take the place of your second WAN.

Q: 10. What is the power of the included POE injector like is it BT or AF?

A: This would be BT due to the 60w required for the power adapter.

Unifi controller adopted it with no problem and was able to assign ports and static IPs quickly. POE for the unit is handy for remote locations when running power is difficult.

I’m a networking professional by trade so I love Ubiquitis line of products. This one is perfect as it can be powered via POE from a larger central switch. I used this in our office behind the printer stand to connect the printer and 2 PCs to the network. Works great. It’s small and light and I was able to attach it with double sided tape to the printer stand and make the cabling look good.

I have been using this mini managed switch to replace my dumb switch. I couple this with the inferface on UDM, the extra features being able to program the ports immediately made this purchase worth while. I wish I invested in the Ubiquiti ecosystem sooner.

Performs exactly as expected. Needed to expand my ports in a couple of areas without running new cables, this works perfectly. Love that it can be powered by PoE! It was just plug and play with my UniFi System!

I have Unifi equipment for my home network and needed a few new switchports for possible expansion in the future. Plugged this baby unto my UDR, it recognized it right away and I was able to setup the switchports with the different vlans I use. Easy peasy. It’s a bargain for $30!

It does exactly what it is supposed to for a very reasonable price. Small form factor and POE (in) option is a bonus.
